Vols' SEC-Leading Receiver Suspended Indefinitely
The announcement came following Thursday's practice, where Dooley stated he does not believe Rogers will return to the team at all this season.
Rogers is not listed on the final depth chart that was released yesterday for the Volunteers' season opener against a cohesive North Carolina State team.
This is a huge blow for an offense that struggled to score in 2011, as it averaged just 11.5 points per game against SEC opponents. Rogers is arguably the biggest contributor to the unit: He led the conference with 67 catches for 1,040 yards, while finding the end zone nine times.
Although the Vols' depth at the position is deep, Rogers is an irreplaceable asset at this point and his absence could hurt their chances to appear in a respectable bowl game later in the year.
Dooley is in desperate need of a break. He is in jeopardy of losing his job and cannot afford colossal suspensions like these if he wants to stay another year in Knoxville.
