Comparing Texas A&M Commit QB Kyler Murray to Johnny Manziel
No, Manziel hasn't become the first player to sign with an NFL team and then return to college.
But there is a player on his way to join the Aggies that some believe could very well mirror what Manziel did on the field for Kevin Sumlin's squad.
Five-star quarterback Kyler Murray recently announced his intentions to join Texas A&M in 2015, with the Aggies beating out Oregon for the dual-threat phenom's services.
And of course, any time that a big-time recruit heads into a place where a superstar for the ages has just exited, there are undoubtedly going to be a lot of people that try and compare what the new guy will bring to the table with what the old guy brought to the table.
For starters, let's make something perfectly clear:
Murray isn't going to be the next Manziel.
That may not be what Texas A&M fans want to hear, but at this point, it's simply impossible to compare anyone to Manziel. He is truly a unique player.
Considering that Murray has yet to step on the field for his first college snap, we would be jumping to conclusions if we declare him the next Manziel.
With that out of the way, let's talk about how Murray's game compares to that of Manziel's.
Obviously Murray will be able to provide what Manziel did in terms of being able to not only make plays through the air in the passing game, but also on the ground thanks to his outstanding speed and mobility.
If you watch his high school highlights (which you'll see in a video below), you can see that he seems to have a knack for finding the right spot to break past the defense.
He's also extremely accurate in passing the ball and seems to have all the intangibles needed to be the next big star in College Station.
To do that, he'll have to find a way to beat out Kyle Allen, who will be trying to use his five-star talents to win the starting job this season.
Murray has pretty much everything that you need to succeed in today's college football. He's a dual-threat quarterback that can take it to the house at a moment's notice.
But it's way too early to start comparing him to Manziel.
One of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of college football versus a 16-year old kid that hasn't even started his senior year of high school yet?
Probably wise to tone down the hype machine just a little bit, wouldn't you say?
