Source tells CBS that Manziel did not party night before Manning Camp
An unnamed source who was apparently with Manziel the night before the Manning Camp told CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman on Sunday evening that the Heisman-winning quarterback was not out partying on Bourbon Street the night before, despite numerous reports claiming otherwise.
"That story about him being in New Orleans is 100 percent BS," the source said.
Manziel represented Texas A&M during the SEC Media Days on Wednesday morning, fielding many questions of his whereabouts the Friday night before the Manning Camp.
"I made a mistake and didn't wake up in time when I should have, and that's pretty much the end of that," Manziel said in front of a huge crowd of reporters. "Missing the meeting wasn't anything due to the night prior. It wasn't anything involved in that. It was just simply my phone died, I overslept, I woke up the next morning whenever I did, went and talked to them and it was kind of a mutual decision to get home and get some time to relax."
During a separate interview, an ESPN anchor asked Manziel if he had been drinking at all the night before. His response was far less than desirable, and left more in question rather than solving the mess.
"I'm not going into details; we had social events," said Manziel.
Whether Manziel is telling the truth or not—and all signs point to the latter—there's no doubt that he's going to need another exceptional year to erase the bad publicity he has conjured over the offseason.
