It's very possible that the Missouri Tigers aren't as good as we anticipated this year, but what we do know after the eight week of the season is that the Texas Longhorns are very much legit. Balanced and relentless on offense, the Longhorns destroyed 11th ranked Missouri 56-31 Saturday night and will take the No.1 slot in the first BCS rankings to be announced later this afternoon. Texas ran for 203 yards, using a variety of options. Six Longhorns contributed with positive yardage, all between 17 and 63 yards. Three different backs scored, including two from Heisman front runner Colt McCoy. McCoy also threw for 337 yards, completely an incredibly efficient 29 of 32 passes.
So yeah, Texas is pretty good.
The 31 points allowed to Missouri might not indicate a solid defensive performance, but I was impressive with what Will Muschamp has done in such a short period of time. Clemson would be a fool not to hire him in my opinion.
It doesn't get any easier for UT. Up next: Oklahoma State, @ Texas Tech and then two weeks later Kansas at home.
Can they run the table and survive another battle with possibly Missouri in the Big XII Championship Game?
