Thanksgiving Football Live Comment Thread
READ MORE:
NFL
After family and stuffing your face, Thanksgiving is about football (not necessarily in that order). This year is almost Bizzaro World, in that the Lions game is the game least likely to be a blowout.

Opening things is the Packers at Lions. If Green Bay wins, they'll be four games up in the NFC North with five to play.

At 4:00 is Jets-Cowboys. A whopping 99% of FanIQ like the Cowboys here, and another 67% see Dallas covering the 14.5 point spread, meaning this could be the perfect background for your after-meal nap.

For those with NFL Network, tonight is Colts-Falcons. Expect to hear a lot about Michael Vick. Once again, 99% are picking the Colts.

Here's the place to comment about today's games. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

*Wonderful* start for the Packers' defense so far.

6-0 I see as I get to a TV for the first time today.  Two field goals I assume?  Or a TD and a missed PAT?

Two field goals. One thanks to a chop block negating a 1st and goal at the 1. The other thanks to a gift fumble by Favre.

Big pick there! C'mon offense, clean this up!

TD Pack.  Ryan Grant.

I did pick the Packers to win, and if the trend of my picks envolving the Lions continue, the Lions will win.

He may be old, but Jason Hanson still has it.

Kitna must fear for his life on every play, he's got to be tough to survive as many hits as he takes each week.

Hey, I got a pick with the Lions in it right.  Pack wins...

Why I thought this game would be under is beyond me.

For Detroit fantasy wise, only Jason Hanson and Calvin "Megatron" Johnson were the good starts. Kitna and his WR core were dissapointing at best. I was listening to the game and the Lions for 3 out of the 4 quarters weren't in sync at all.

If the Packers are really that good, then we'll find out in the Super Bowl. But I don't think they'll beat the Cowboys, and if they sonehow do, the Pats would still beat them by a few TD's. Favre and their offense would be completely helpless against the Patriots defense.

I don't know how good a chance the Pack have against the Pats. My guess is not good. The way I see it though is that the Colts and Cowboys had their chance, and they couldn't do it. Thus, the Pack might as well get their chance, because they (and the Steelers) are the only other top echelon team left.

However, the Cowboys scare the hell out of me, especially if the guys who got hurt today can't play next week. Despite that, though, I've already decided that I love this team, no matter what happens. I was pretty optimistic on them compared to others, but they've completely exceeded my expectations. If they can get to the Super Bowl, great. If they get destroyed by the Pats, so be it. It's still been a dream season, no matter what.

How many losses to horrible teams are the Steelers allowed to have (without any real quality wins) before they leave the "top echelon"?

The Steelers are top echelon because when they're on their game, they play as well as any team this side of New England (see the first Cleveland game, the Baltimore game, and the Seattle game). Consistency is a problem, but they're still the obvious 3rd best team in the tougher conference. They're ranked fifth in Football Outsiders' ratings, including #1 in defense. Most years, that's top echelon.

Most years, that's top echelon. But this isn't most years. I just have a serious problem with calling a team "top echelon" when they lose 3 VERY winnable games, and barely have any wins against teams with a winning record.

Everyone loved knocking the Patriots for beating up on bad teams, but wants to give the Steelers credit, when they can't even consistently BEAT the bad teams.

Sorry, but this year, the "upper echelon" is a lot smaller than most years. Patriots, Colts, Cowboys, Packers can be in for now. But beyond that, I don't think you can call anyone "upper echelon".
