Its interesting at the very least to see that the Atlanta Braves will not trade away some of their talented players in their farm system for high end players already in the major league. Stop me if you have heard this before but didn't the Braves just trade away a TON of talent in return for Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay last year and end up seeing Teixeira walk after only a year? Hmmmm, that is an interesting statement coming from the Braves front office. I totally understand the thought process and thinking behind Frank Wren's decision but maybe they should find some way of getting an "ACE" like Jake Peavy from the Padres. I understand that trading away a super prospect like Jordan Schafer is alomost a given, along with other highly touthed players like Tommy Hanson, but given the shot in the arm Peavy would give to the Braves, its definitely something to consider. Especially since Peavy would be signed under contract for another 4 seasons. There are also rumors that the Padres would also ask for either Kelly Johnson or Yunel Escobar in the trade as well. As for that, I can't see the Braves trading away Escobar. As for Kelly Johnson, I think that is more of an option, especially after the breakout season that Martin Prado had last season. Prado is a 2nd baseman by trade and his defense is above average, not to mention he can play multiple positions on the infield. With the Braves' rotation in question this offseason, they know they need to acquire starting rotation pitching and its not gonna be easily available through free agency. Trading prospects for a proven quality like Peavy is something to think about and then, if you get Peavy, get another pitcher along the lines of Derek Lowe, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wolf, etc. With the Tommy John surgery of Tim Hudson and the surgeries of John Smoltz and Tom Glavine this season, they need new blood and innings eaters along side Jair Jurrjens, Jorge Campillo, and Charlie Morton. We will soon see what will become of these trade rumors, possibly at the winter meetings. Hopefully the Braves will get a few of those innings eaters soon and be contenders once again for the NL East title.
