With teams like last year’s Super Bowl Champions Baltimore Ravens and a tough team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, no one knew where the Cincinnati Bengals fit in. Everyone in football figured the Ravens and the Steelers would be the team to beat.

Don’t look now but these people were wrong. After today’s 49-9 thumping of the New York Jets, the Bengals, who have won four in a row, are now 6-2 and are first in their division.

One of the reasons why the team has been so good this season is the play of their quarterback Andy Dalton. In eight games, Dalton has thrown for 1,924 yards with a 65.9 completion percentage along with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Dalton was especially good in his team’s blowout win over the Jets this afternoon. The 25-year-old QB threw a career high five touchdown passes and threw for 325 yards.

Dalton may not be like a Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson or Matthew Stafford but all he is doing this season is winning football games. Now, he just needs to take the next step and do just that in the postseason.

The team has once again been able to get a great offensive year out of wide receiver A.J. Green. Not including this afternoon’s game, Green has five touchdowns with 619 receiving yards on 43 receptions.

While he did not have a touchdown grab today, Green still managed to pick-up 115 receiving yards on three catches. He was a big-gain player this afternoon as he averaged 38.3 yards per catch.

Another wide receiver who is having a productive season for the Bengals is Marvin Jones. Coming into today’s game, Jones had three touchdowns with 247 receiving yards on 16 receptions.

Those numbers got even better in his team’s victory this afternoon. Jones had a Bengals’s record breaking day as he had four touchdown receptions. Jones also finished the day with 122 receiving yards on eight catches.

The team’s defense has also been solid this season. The Bengals are currently ranked ninth in points allowed (135) and have also been one of the better teams in limiting yards against.

What has also been impressive for the Bengals this season is the teams they have beaten. Thus far, the Bengals have beaten the likes of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and the Detroit Lions.

With may be the exception of the Steelers, all those teams mentioned above are top notch NFL clubs and are all tough to beat. Even that has not stopped the Bengals from beating them this season.

If the Bengals continue to play this way, they should be able to take the next step in the postseason and show the league that they are one of their best teams.
