The Cinderella Story Ends For Costa Rica

Tim Krul helped put the Dutch into the SemisCosta Rica has been the big surprise at World Cup from the start.  The team upset Uruguay in their first match of the tournament.

In the Round Of 16, Costa Rica upset Greece on penalty kicks.

Yesterday, the Costa Ricans faced the Dutch in the quarter-finals.

Despite losing to penalty kicks, Costa Rica gave the Netherlands a run for their money during the entire match.

The fulltime score was 0-0.  Not even extra time produced a goal.

Netherlands had a lot of chances to score during the second half and extra time.  Too bad the cross bars and posts got in the way.  Man, if you had a dollar for every post or cross bar the Dutch hit, you would've been five or 10 dollars richer.

Just before extra time was up, The Dutch made an unusual substitution.  The team put Tim Krul in net, thinking he was better at stopping penalty kicks.

Well, the Dutch coaching staff were right.  Up 3-2 in penalty kicks, Krul  made the save the Netherlands were looking for.  The save that put the Dutch into the semi-finals against Argentina and ended the Cinderella story for Costa Rica.

You Welcome!  I was happy to do it.  Wait until tomorrow's blog.  Brazil suffered it's worst defeat ever in the team's World Cup history today.

Too bad for the Ticos.  But they held up CONCACAF well!
