Blog Photo - The Cubs introduce a new mascotThe Chicago Cubs have announced their first mascot in nearly 100 years, with "Clark" being introduced to fans yesterday.

Here's at excerpt from the team's statement:

"The Cubs are thrilled to welcome Clark as the team's official mascot. Clark is a young, friendly Cub who can't wait to interact with our other young Cubs fans. He'll be a welcoming presence for families at Wrigley Field and an excellent ambassador for the team in the community."

Previously, the Cubs had live bears as mascots, including Joa, who was the Cubs mascot back in 1916. Joa is said to be Clark's great-grandfather.

The Angels, Yankees and Dodgers are now the only MLB teams without official mascots.

In the end, the mascot probably won't have any impact on their play on the field, but it's fun for young fans and could help enhance their experience, as well as play a fun role in social media and other events.

Do you think the Cubs had a good idea with this mascot? Or should they have stuck with tradition and stayed mascot-free?
