With all of the debate and controversy surrounding the first BCS rankings of the year, I decided that to be "fair and balanced", we need to have a similar list to report the others that don't garner the same respect as those more fortunate. It's only fair, right?? So, without further adieu, here is the inaugural list...
#7. Tennessee 3-4 (1-3)... If you were scrolling through the scores on Sunday morning, you might be thinking that the Vols earned their way off the list by virtue of their 31 point win over MSU. WRONG!! What the scoreboard failed to show was the Vols' 6 possesions of 5 plays or less, the fact that the Vols returned 2 interceptions for TD and 3 total, and a mesely 275 yards of offense. All of this against arguably the worst team in the SEC. The Fulmers belong on this list until proven otherwise!
#6. ArizonaState 2-4 (1-2)... If college football history has taught us anything it's that without the benefit of "institutional control", Dennis Erickson's magic is fleeting. So, the disapointment that's been the 2008 Sun Devils should be no surprise. That said, losing to UNLV and having more losses than wins in the sad PAC-10 is unacceptable with the talent this team puts on the field. A loss to either of the Apple Fritters, however, should be a signal to immediately fire DE.
#5. Wisconsin 3-4 (0-4)... Why the masses are always mesmerized by the promise that could be Badger football I've no idea. You'd think that after failure after failure that we might begin to lower the bar for this program so that they could achieve realistic goals. Thankfully, for their sake, they have the foresight to lower it themselves every season about this time. So I guess after the OhioState game you boys decided to just give up? Way to open up a can of quit on the rest of the season. At least we can all be envious of the good times reportedly being had at band camp in Madison.
#4. MississippiState 2-5 (1-3)... The only person who's a fan of Sylvester Croom these days is Philip Fulmer. Which is worse.... that fact or losing to LA Tech?? To be fair, however, a trifecta of Tennessee teams is never an easy proposition for anybody. Despite the fact that Sylvester won't survive past this season, that "2" (with regards to his record against Tennessee teams) better be on the left side of the column after this weeks game if he intends to make it to November.
#3. Texas A&M 2-5 (0-3)... I tell you....once that snowball starts, it's a bitch to stop! If you're the Aggies and 5 of your first 7 games are at home and not against Texas, OU, or Missouri, you've got to be ffeling pretty good about your early prospects. Uhhmmmm....perhaps that's why the 2-5 start is that much more abysmal. Furthermore, I don't think that giving up 204 ypg on the ground and 207 ypg through the air is what's meant as a "balanced defense". A loss in Ames this weekend might shoot this team to the top of this list!
#2. Syracuse 1-6 (0-3)... It's hard to believe that this program once ruled the roost in the Big East and churned out consistent NFL talent. WTF happened?? This team lost to Akron at home for goodness sakes and has scored only 12 TDs in 7 games... in the Big Least!! Ouch, babe. Apparently there's power outages ALL OVER upstate New York!
#1. The AppleState 1-13 (0-9)... First the Sonics leave town, then the Seahawks suck, and now the Huskies and Cougars are inventing new definitions of the word. The only win between the two schools is against PortlandState?? Are you kidding?? They are one of the worst schools in the Big Sky conference. The worst part of the entire situation is that we likely won't get any separation between the two schools until they meet on Novermber 22. That's a whole month more of suckdom! Even Ole Miss and MissState will be laughing at that terrible match-up! That Seahawks-Steelers superbowl sure seems like it was a long, long time ago for the home folks, huh??
