Even though the US team is (somewhat) closing the soccer gap between them and the rest of the world, they would have to do something big (ie. win the World Cup next year) to get a following. And the scary thing is that even may not do it.

Unfortunately, you're probably right.  However, the game's popularity will still grow in this country and would have a pretty good spike of interest during the World Cup...especially if we do well.

The US team played 2 1/2 good games..  That's a pretty small sample..  I think it's going to take a little more than that to say that this team has actually turned a corner and for people to believe they can be taken seriously by the better teams around the world

The U.S squad showed that sometimes they can play well but when it comes to games they that really matter they fold under pressure. In order for the U.S. to advance in the soccer (football) world they would need to beat top teams win championships keep their composure and improve deeply.
