The pigs are flying away from Washington.

After 30 years in business, the oinking old men in dresses, sun hats and pig snouts are going out to pasture.

"The Hogettes," as their called, have been a fixture at Redskins home games since 1983, getting their name from the team's offensive line, nicknamed the "Hogs."

Michael Torbert, The Hogette's founder, announced the group's retirement on their website today.

"After 30 seasons, the Hogettes are hanging up our pig snouts and dresses," Torbert wrote.

Torbert did say that the group would continue to be Redskins fans and would also still raise money for children's charities.

Here are some pictures of the group in all their glory:

I'm not sad to see them go. Perhaps I'm just getting cynical in my old age, but I think the whole gig was incredibly stupid.

I'm a huge Redskins fan.  My dad was traveling one time and happen to be on a flight with the Hogettes.  He told them about me, and I received a Hogettes trading card autographed by the members made out to me.  A fantastic gift.
