LA Dodgers Are the Best Team in Major League Baseball
Most took a glance at the Dodgers pitching rotation and felt Clayton Kershaw (3-1 with an ERA of 2.22) was the only bright spot. It's now safe to say that Kershaw is not alone:
1) Ted Lilly leads the team with a 2.11 ERA and he also boasts a record of 5-0. Opposing batters are only hitting a meager .172 against him.
2) Chris Capuano, the southpaw the Dodgers plucked from the New York Mets, is having an outstanding year thus far. He has a record of 5-1, and ERA of 2.34. His only loss came in his most recent start as he reeled off five straight victories to begin his career in Dodger blue.
3) Chad Billingsley and Aaron Harang boast ERA's of 3.83 --> and that is the highest ERA their starting rotation posts thus far. For most pitchers in the major league any earned run average under four is quite a successful year. For both Chad and Aaron, the Dodgers couldn't ask for much more.
Because their rotation has done such a spectacular job thus far, the bullpen has not been overused and will continue to be effective if the trend of solid starting pitching continues. Kenley Jansen and Javy Geurra have combined for 12 saves this season, however Guerra has three blown saves to his name already this season. The closer role has yet to be completely defined yet with a lack of consistency, however you have to assume that will be taken care of within the next month or so.
