The Los Angeles Lakers Should Give Up On Deron Williams

Mandatory Credit: Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIREIt's been reported recently by Mark Stein of ESPN that point guard Deron Williams is only interested in two teams: the Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks. However, Stein is also reporting that the Lakers are working towards a trade and sign for Pau Gasol. However, the Nets only have interest in Bynum, who the Lakers are not making available.

While the Lakers desperately need a good point guard, trading an elite center for one is not the way to go about it. Bynum has definitely shown some immaturity in the past seasons, however, you can't overlook the fact that he's one of the best centers in the league if not the best. Last season, the Lakers were 2nd in the NBA in rebounding. That's certainly a joint effort between Gasol and Bynum who averaged 20 rebounds between the two of them, with Bynum averaging more of the two.

The biggest reason they can't give him up is that he's a formidable opponent on both offense and defense.

While the Lakers could greatly benefit from getting Deron Williams, giving up Bynum in return would be too high of a price.
