The great game of basketball has been played outside for decades. From the blacktops of New York and California to the barn side basketball goals of Indiana. Well the NBA could be taking a cue from the NHL and play a preseason game outside next late summer. The Phoenix Suns are planning on playing the first ever out door NBA game. The Suns would play that game in October at night at the Indian Wells (Calif.) Tennis Garden, Suns President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts said. Dick Heckmann, the Suns part-owner, got the idea to play at the 16,100-seat stadium from a local parks manager and passed it along to Welts. The talks progressed so well that the Suns actually laid a basketball court over the tennis court surface and had Steve Kerr come out to check it out. The official announcement of the game is expected to come sometime next month but it looks like we will have our first ever outdoor NBA game.
"It's a completely unique experience," Welts said. "We like to do new and exciting things. I think it would be remarkably successful." Welts also added "It's going to be incredibly cool."
I agree, that sounds extremely cool and since it will be on TNT and not Versus, it will be must see TV in October.
