The Official Pre-Pre-Season Poll
READ MORE:

.Georgia There was nothing better for stating how mad they are at playing crappy teams when they deserve more than by pounding everything out of an overrated Hawaii squad. If I could have made a bet on how many Hawaii players would be dead by the end of the game, I would have said seven. That number is unfortunately not including Colt Brennan. Same with the Sooners, Georgia fans know next season will be one of the greatest runs through SEC football.

.OU Ask any knowledgeable Sooner fan what he thought about this years team compared to where he thought they would be next season. They would tell you they would win the Big 12 in 2007 but would the National Championship in 2008. The team grows up, they have great recruits, and Sam Bradford is the perfect passer. Boomer Sooner in 2008 with four possible wins coming against what should be ranked teams in conference. Signature wins galore including the Red River shoot-out.

.USC What else can be said after finishing a season strong? 2007 was disappointing in regards to losing only two games and killing Illinois in the Rose Bowl. This will be a great year in football because major powers that are playing great football are all up top. Pac-10 is by and far overrated but playing at Virginia to open the season then coming home two weeks later to play Ohio State at the Coliseum is a great statement. If not for the aura of Trojan football, a team with this schedule wouldn’t have National Championship aspirations. The big difference is because the Trojans will win all these games when not many other teams can.

.Missouri Obviously got screwed by the BCS but probably benefited more by blowing out an 8-4 SEC team with two amazing running backs. The dynamic of that Tiger offense was finally shown as Tony Temple ran for 281 yards while Heisman finalist Chase Daniel plays mediocre and still win by 28 points. Most of the defense is coming back with William Moore playing the same role Pig Brown did before going down with an injury. Daniel, Jeremy Maclin, Chase Coffman, Denario Alexander, and Tommy Saunders will all find themselves on the receiving end of nice wins in big games. Somehow stealing Wes Kemp from the Wisconsin Badgers looks like Mizzou could become Tight End U.

.Ohio State Don’t stop reading my blog now because of this. After losing two National Championship games by exposing their speed, the Buckeyes will still win 11 games in 2008 simply because the only tough game they will play all year will come against USC in a monster non-conference match-up. Everything else just looks like Hawaii’s entire schedule last season. And it’s funny how USC trades off playing two overrated teams every other year in Hawaii and Ohio State.

.WVU The big three (White, Slaton, and Devine) are all coming back and Bill Stewart takes over as head coach after preparing the Mountaineers so well for the Fiesta Bowl that the Interim tag changes to “Head Coach.” 2008 Should at least be a top-10 season as the transition looks to go smoothly then falls apart for 2009. Good luck to the ‘neers.

.Texas Great recruiting class that will rocket high in the polls with Colt McCoy starting at QB for a second season. Replacing Jamaal Charles (1,619 yards, 18 touchdowns) shouldn’t be too hard with DeSean Hales and Jeremy Hills coming in as four-star recruits. Hills seems to be the better choice as a faster, smarter runner with a little bit more size. Only problem could be getting tired from running everywhere on the field. Championship radar in Austin.

.TTU Mike Leach is going to be happy come spring practice when Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree are right there with him for the 2008 season. Could work on improving the defense this spring but only TTU’s spread offense can do without that. Nothing could be better with Michael Crabtree as he comes back for his sophomore season as the AT&T All-America Player of the Year. The Big 12 is a brewing pot ready to explode in the top 10.

.Clemson Right now I’m calling Clemson to win the ACC. By the start of the season I’ll be saying the same thing. By the time the ACC championship game rolls around, I’ll be smiling because my prediction will come true, as the Tigers will find their place in the Orange Bowl (Sorry guys, no National Championship aspirations for you).

.Auburn The only reason I have Auburn this high is because of the speculation of the productivity of the spread offense in the SEC. This second ranked SEC team in the 2008 Pre-Pre-Season Poll will fair better than Petrino at Arkansas because of the staunch defense Tommy Tuberville enforces. Without a decent run game though, Auburn may not be able to survive the rough SEC schedule.

.VT I’m not completely sure which side to take after the Kansas loss. Was it the power of the Big-12 that won that game or the weakness of the ACC. What’s worse for Beamerball is that they are losing their top receivers who held the season together all season. Sean Glennon has proven to be Rex Grossman by playing terrifically inconsistent while Tyrod Taylor is pissing off the good people at rivals.com who gave him a five-star recruiting last year.

.Florida With the highest rated recruiting class by rivals.com, Urban Meyer will have a lot more weapons to help Tim Tebow to the top. I can see the Gators losing a game in October and possibly slide out of contention for a BCS bowl entirely. National Championship or bust for the folks in Gainesville.

.LSU Losing so many starters on offense including Matt Flynn at quarterback, Jacob Hester at half-back, and Early Doucet at receiver is going to hurt the 2007 BCS champions. Will obviously have to facilitate recruits to be able to perform at the high level of the SEC. Teams love to beat up on each other in the south and many of the teams who fought last year will be back. More teams will get involved especially with Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, Bobby Petrino at Arkansas, and a well-powered Auburn installing the spread offense in the south. The SEC will be home to many great games next season.

.Arizona State ASU was basically discovered as a fake after getting pounded by USC at home and dominated by Dennis Dixon and Oregon. Yikes, is right especially after the pounding by a Texas squad who is expected to be better next year. Unless Dennis Erickson can get through the Pac-10 schedule without losing to teams because they turnover the ball four times, the Sun Devils could see a slide. Pac-10 is overrated, so anything could happen.

.Kansas A great run through 2007 with a weak schedule and a loss to Missouri but a great win against Virginia Tech. Kansas were far and away the best team in all aspects of the game. Schedule this year rotates in the Big-12 with what some say are about four losses. Going from 12-1 to 8-4 could hurt. Also, Todd Reesing is the real deal for the next few years in Lawrence. He knows how to play the game at a high level but also very consistently.
