The Saints are getting ready for Atlanta
The Saints will be going up against the Atlanta Falcons this Thursday. They won’t have time to party and let the win sink in. They will be too busy taking stock of who’s injured and who is not, and getting ready for what is coming on Thursday.
Saints defensive end Cam Jordan said that 49ers game was a close call and they will be prepared for Thursday.
"We've got out of that game, we won that game, it was a hard physical fight," he. "We're looking forward towards Thursday. We're already breaking down film for Atlanta today."
Their week will be cut short with team practice scheduled on Tuesday and heading to Atlanta on Wednesday.
Saints coach Sean Payton said that Thursday games always called for short week schedule and they were prepared to tackle it under the short timing.
"Typically on a short week like this we get right on to the next opponent," he said. "There have been snippets we looked at, really nothing has changed since last night. We are kind of on to the Atlanta plan just with the reduced time."
The Falcons are coming out of a humiliating loss on Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have only won twice so far. With both teams coming on short week, preparation and skill will decide which one wins.
Jordan said that both the teams were familiar with each other but that only meant it would be a hard struggle for both to win.
"We know them and they know us," he said. "Familiarity helps in a short week, but at the same time it's going to be a physical, hard-fought battle regardless because we always play each other tough."
Coach Payton said that the priority so far for the short week was to ensure the players did not get injured and to rest. Keeping their minds ready and practice going was also important so they would have maximum chances of victory.
"I think (about) the toll on the players and just trying to get them as much rest as possible prior to playing another football game," he said.
