The Tiger That Roared II

I guess one would have seen it to believe it.....I was at worked and missed, but apparently yesterday's playoff and sudden death hole in the US Golf Open was one of the, if not best, round of golf ever on television. I was following the results when I could, but I'm sure it was not the same. Congrats to both golfers and it may sound cheesy to say this, but this was one of those cases where it was a damn shame there had to be a second place finisher.

Now to some baseball things I normally would have put in my weekly recap:

BREAKING NEWS: per the New York Times (I get email updates every day and when breaking news happens): Willie Randolph (and two coaches) were fired early this morning. Check the link here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/17/sports/baseball/17cnd-mets.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Interesting thing here is there's nothing on ESPN (does that mean it did not happen???) as of this writing, nor anywhere else. Stay tuned....I suspect this will be a big deal in the sports talk and blog worlds today

-Some teams are finally waking up and making life interesting in the pennant races. The NY Yankees are on the move-but how long does it last? They lose their best pitcher to foot injury. Are they in the CC Sabathia sweepstakes now? And World Series pick by yours truly is on the move as well. Anything is possible in the new black and blue division (AL Central).

-Impressive as much as it kills me department: St. Louis is hanging with the Cubs despite all of their injuries and a preseason perception of talent (I thought they didn't have it this year). Also impressed with the ChiSox, although with Ozzie in charge, they're an implosion waiting to happen.

-Chipper is finally coming back to earth and is now down .402. I really want to see him finish over .400 and slumps do happen...but still....

-The Seattle Mariners...a big stink bomb this year...fired their GM. Is the Manager next?

Other stuff:

Javon Walker was found unconscious in Las Vegas, apparently after a robbery/robbery attempt. He was apparently beat up. Walker I thought was injured (knee-not related to the incident) and I'm wondering why he would be in Vegas when he probably should have been preparing for the upcoming season...

Yahoo as of 5am is reporting Willie Randolph's firing, but no espn.com. Again...did it really happen if not on espn.com??

That's all for now.....have fun Willie!
