The Top Ten Ice Girls Groups Of The NHL
NHL

I Never Knew So Many NHL Teams Had Ice Girls, But I Sure Am Glad I Do Now

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope everyone’s Turkey Day was fantastic and that football didn’t ruin your day in any way.

Something thing that I am really thankful for year round is the NHL. It’s by far my favorite sport and the Stanley Cup is the hardest earned trophy in all of sports. One thing hockey has always lacked (and rightly so) is cheerleaders.

Think about it, the NBA, NFL, and AFL have them. College sports have them, why not the NHL? We’ll for one thing, I just can’t get into the fact that the NHL can have cheerleaders. The first time I saw them in the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals in Carolina it just didn't seem like they fit in at a hockey game. But call them Ice Girls and give them a job of skating around on the ice, and I’m all for it.

So just for you, I’m giving you the top ten Ice Girl squads from this NHL season.

Since I don’t want you to leave on a crappy note, I’m going to give it to you first. The Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. The Smirnoff Ice Team from Canada and the Energy Team from Florida, they have guys on their squads. Not cool. Not cool at all. And just for having guys on their squads, the Canucks and Lightning have disqualified their Ice Teams from being in contention from the top ten. Don’t worry, you weren’t missing much anyways.

Now onto the Ice Girls.  I'd like to say that these girls aren't ranked in any real order, but then I would be failing at my duties of bringing you the "top ten".  The first few groups from Florida, Phoenix, and Nashville are all dance groups.  Since they don't fall into the "Ice Girls" categories, I'll just present them first for you.  Not doing so would be a crime.

Florida Panthers Ice Dancers who also have their own calendar.

The Phoenix Coyotes have The Pack.

The Predators have two groups, the Ice Girls are featured later.  But here are the Predators Dancers.

Now on to the Ice Girls.

The Ice Girls from Boston come in at number ten.  Here is the team homepage while each girl and their bio can be seen here.

I'm not digging the name of the Big Country Ice Crew from Calgary, but that doesn't stop them from coming in at number nine.

The Power Players from Orange County rank number eight.

By far the smallest group, the Goal Girls from Nashville come in at number six.  Plus they have hockey sticks.

The New York Islander Ice Girls round out the top five.  They even do comercials.

The Storm Squad from Carolina round out the top five.. They even have a pimp. Sweet.  While you may not be able to see them at a distance, click here for the team page and close ups.

The Blackhawks aren't the only team doing well in Chicago.  Their Ice Girls place at number four.

Would you expect anything less from Hollywood?  The Metal Ice Crew out of Los Angeles are number three.

Atlanta's comes in second place, there’s just something about the blue shirts of the Blue Crew.

Finally at number one, the Dallas Ice Girls. They might have the worst team in the league this year, but they have the best Ice Girls squad. They’re so cool they went out on a boat party and came back with pictures for us.

The first time I really noticed this sort of thing was at a Sharks-Jackets game in Nationwide Arena a couple of years ago.  Cute young girls scraping the snow during TV time outs.  While I can't say I'm in favor of the scantily clad cuties, I am forced to admit that I am certainly not against the concept!

Oh that's a good idea.  My next one is probably going to be top ten third jerseys.  I don't know of any teams that have them other than Calgary's Harvey and I think Ive heard you talk about the Kings one before?  Im sure at least ten teams have them, itll just take a bit more research though.

Oh not much research is needed. Just go to youtube----Here I'll get you started.

Just look at my avatar------------there you go Kings mascot Bailey. I think a lot of teams have mascots. They were all at last season's All Star game.

If you do this, before considering Wild Wing (Ducks mascot) please view this. That would open up a spot for the Lightning Bug. lol

Hurricanes have Stormy for a Mascot, and last I knew, Tampa had a Lightening Bug (you know if you wanted to make up for your obvious anti-tampa bias )

I'm definitely going to have to make a little detour to see the Stars while I'm in Dallas early next year....

I may get called for 'high-sticking' then !!!

By the way, when is there going to be a top ten NHL mascot poll?

WHAT IS IT with you and the Lightning!? Did you lose a ton of $$$ on the '04 Cup FINALS? I go to multiple games every year  and the Lightning Girls are one of the first of it's kind dating back to the '02 season. There has NEVER been a guy  that I've ever seen.
Who the hell is the Energy Team? Never heard of em. Unless you mean the guys who fire t-shirts into the crowd. Uh, doesn't every team have those guys as well?

Hopefully some people will visit the above site and see that, unless you have a proclivity for seeing transvestites that aren't really there, you are dead wrong.

The Kings have a Kings Crew along with the Metal Ice Crew, and there are men. Funny thing those men would never make it onto any DABs poll.

Anyways, way to give him hell Mark. lol

Actually, I had them a lot higher, but I couldnt find any picture bigger than the one I have where you could actually see the girls.  So I had to drop them just a bit

i'll get over it, don't worry.

So, what exactly do the 'ice girls' do again ?

Do they 'drop the puck' ???

The Metal Ice Crew from LA (new this year) cleans the ice during breaks in action. There are about 3 of them who can't skate too good, but have other "powers", so they are the three I see most---since my seats are near the tunnel they come out of. So far this year---only one has fallen, and she has done it twice. When they make their first appearance during the game---they come out to the song "Girls" by Beastie Boys.

Damn Fine Post.  Too Bad this wasn't done a couple of years ago when the Canes Storm Squad had better looking girls.  We would have been ranked higher.
