I realize that we are only a few days into the Olympics and it’s too early to starting panicking, but I will mention it anyway: the United States is trailing in the medal counts.
The U.S has trailed China in the medal counts every day of the Olympic Games so far, and currently has 11 medals to China’s 12. The United States has 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. China has 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze.
Italy is fourth in medals with 8 and South Korea and Japan have 5 medals a piece. There are six medal finals today so that number could change very quickly.
Here is the medal count as of Monday morning.
1) China: 12
2) U.S.: 11
3) Italy: 8
4) S. Korea: 5
5) Japan: 5
6) France: 4
7) Russia: 4
8) N. Korea: 3
Of the United States 11 medals so far, eight of them have come in swimming events. The other three were in Archery, Diving and Shooting. China’s medal count has been a bit more diversified as they have won medals in 5 different events.
