I intended on posting this on another article, but simply realized it was too long and needed it's own space.
First let me say, I am a life-long Tech fan and currently a student athlete. (not football), therefore my views and opinions are extremely biased so take them with a grain of salt.
#1 Texas..I hate Texas, but they deserve it. They showed that they have some amazing athletes on the field and Mack Brown showed everyone that his team is ready for this brutal stretch known as the big 12 conference. I doubt they remain at the top for long simply because they have an insane schedule coming up even if Missouri did lose to Oklahoma State.
National Championship chances...If they go undefeated the rest of the way...absolutely...
#2 Alabama...They could make an argument that they should be the top team, but it would be flawed. The only reason that they moved up so high was that they beat Georgia. Even if they did beat them big, i think UT's win over Oklahoma was much more impressive than Bama's win over Georgia. That being said when the Longhorn's slip up Alabama will be right there and will most likely be deserving of the number ! spot in the nation...maybe...
National Championship chances....Same as UT. there is a lot to be said about the SEC and should an SEC team go undefeated they will be in the title game.
#3 Penn State...Ok well not too happy about this one. I am not saying that after this week they should move down, but after beating Illinois they should not have moved up to #6. I think the only reason that they moved up so high was simply because Joe Paterno predicted they would before the game if they won. This is an Illinois team that of course lost to Minnesota this week...
National Championship chances...Pray for a Big 12 team to lose along with Alabama. Yet i could see them getting screwed over by Florida or USC.
#4 Oklahoma....In the previous poll i planned on posting this in. many people wrote that they should be dropped from the top 5 for a loss, and many people agreed if it weren't for LSU losing and Missouri losing. Well plain and simple i, of course understand why they are still so high, they may have lost to a very good Texas team, but Ohio State #5 to #14 after losing to USC when they were #1. Oklahoma should not be in the top 7 even. Now Oklahoma fans don't get on to me. With the Big 12 as strong as it has been in a long time, they will have many chances to win their way back up to the top.
National Championship chances....It would be a travesty for an undefeated Penn State to not get into the national championship game, but if ZERO-U goes undefeated they should be one of the top 2 teams in the nation.
#5 Florida...Imagine in week 4 i till you the #4 Gators will lose a game yet only lose 1 spot over the next 3 weeks. Yeah sounds absurd to me too. I believe they fell the appropriate amount after losing a close one to Mississippi, however if they were able to beat LSU by that much it goes to show how much credit people give to the SEC just for being the SEC. No team ranked #4 in the nation should lose by 30 points to anyone, anywhere, at anytime. LSU was over ranked, the SEC is an amazing conference, but this year still needs to prove it. (Part of this is me venting because they jumped over my Red Raiders..)
National Championship Chances....Same boat as Oklahoma. If they are able to beat Georgia and possibly Alabama in a championship game they will have a leg up on an undefeated Penn State and a one loss USC. In my opinion would still be a step behind any undefeated Big 12 hopeful.
#6 USC...Well they have moved down 5 spots compared to Florida's 1 in two weeks, then again they didn't really have to do anything to get their. At least Florida beat LSU. USC has beaten Oregon who got a measly 4 votes to be top 25 and Arizona state. I understand there is nothing they can do if they are in a weak conference, they do not deserve to be back in the national championship picture yet.
National Championship chances....They are one step down from an undefeated Penn State assuming they win the rest of their games.
#7 Texas Tech...Being at the game i will say this, we were outplayed and out coached. We won because we got lucky...Having gotten that out of the way, that is the worst we have played all year if we play like that against anybody other than Texas A&M or Baylor i fully expect to lose. Had Nebraska played that well against Virginia Tech they would have won, and had they done it against Missouri they would have been a lot closer to winning. Tech needs to sure up the kicking game, the main problem is that Keith Toogood couldn't play for another year. i guarantee you the defense is on the field throwing up right now as we speak and if they aren't they damn well should be. If you want to criticize tech for an easy schedule understand that a Tulsa team on the outskirts of the top 25 right now did pull out of the contract. The plain and simple fact though is, had a more popular team started the season at #14 and done the same as what the Red Raiders did so far this year there would be non-stop outcries if they were ranked as low as #7.
National Championship chances...Same as UT and i will say the same for Oklahoma State...If a team goes undefeated in the Big 12 they should be in the national championship game.
#8 Oklahoma State...Well that was a huge win over Missouri and i hold the Cowboys in the highest regard. I kind of wish that Tech had Offered T. Boone Pickens the same extra 25 dollars a semester scholarship basketball that OSU did so he would have stayed at Texas Tech and we could have gotten a 163??? million dollar donation.( I think that is the right number). They did prover that they are the real deal and they can hang with the big dogs. Seeing as how i had to play in the same district as Chase Daniels for 2 years in high school i know he is a great player, but it sure felt good to see him throw 3 interceptions in the second half. Oklahoma State probably should be at #10 in the nation, which would be perfectly fine, with a Big 12 schedule they have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves
National Championship chances...I have said it twice already. Undefeated against Big 12=national championship game. Especially since they had to play Missouri.
#9 Brigham Young...To be honest this is the team i know the least about, as expected. They deserve to be ranked as low as the lowest undefeated BCS conference team. Oh wait....That is Oklahoma State. Yeah they deserve to be exactly where they are at the moment.
National Championship chances....Although the non-BCS teams have recently broken into the BCS games i still think they are a long shot to enter a national championship game regardless of what happens around the country.
#10 Georgia...Well after being trounced by Alabama a few weeks ago they took their lumps. They deserve to be ahead of LSU no doubt, but could make an argument to be ahead of USC easily. They will also have a tough road ahead of them and if they go throughout the SEC with only one loss that will be quite an accomplishment. Not sure they deserve to be ahead of Ohio State right now, but if Ohio State beats Penn State that may change.
National Championship chances...I guess i am putting any one loss SEC team and any 1 loss Big 12 team ahead of anybody else in the nation. Georgia included.
I don't feel like doing the rest because this has taken well over an hour and a half already. believe me i am no expert i just put my opinion out there and am of course biased. I believe Tech should be #4 but that is just me and i am full of it. If you don't like this don't just say it. Tell me why and give me your top ten rankings. Here are my top ten.
1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. Penn State
4. Texas Tech
5. Florida
6. Oklahoma State
7. Oklahoma
8. Brigham Young
