Theo Walcott coy on Arsenal future after hat-trick against Newcastle
Theo Walcott remained coy on his future at Arsenal after scoring a brilliant hat-trick against Newcastle United on Saturday night at the Emirates. The England international is still the center of controversy at Arsenal as reports of new talks between club and Theo Walcott surfaced earlier this week.
In spite of a superb performance by his teammates, Theo Walcott stole the spotlight in a 7-3 victory over Newcastle United as Arsenal rampaged their way to their fourth successive league victory. Theo Walcott earned himself a spot in the first team as Arsene Wenger decided to put his faith in him as striker once again.
The 23-year-old forward’s contract with Arsenal will expire at the end of the season, which means he will allowed to speak freely with other clubs as soon as the winter transfer window opens. Theo Walcott is confident of reaching an agreement with the Arsenal side, although he is receiving a lot of interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.
Theo Walcott, who was seen training beside Thierry Henry before the Newcastle game, claims he will not be distracted by off-field issues and will continue to perform at his best.
“I will continue to play my football,” Theo Walcott told BBC Sport. “Talks are ongoing and I'm sure something will be sorted soon.”
The Arsenal rebel is demanding more playing time from Arsene Wenger and a better contract from the Arsenal board. Theo Walcott insists he has the best for Arsenal at heart and would love resolve all problems with the English football giants.
“I enjoy playing in whatever position but it was just telling the manager to give me the opportunities to play up front,” Theo Walcott told ESPN after the Newcastle game. “I'm not saying I'm always going to play up front but it's just showing what I can do but hopefully I've opened a few eyes and it's just a different option. Hopefully, I can start to take it a bit more often now.”
In spite of being kept on the bench for most of the season, Theo Walcott showed impressive chemistry with his teammates on the pitch. Apart from scoring a hat-trick Theo Walcott also provided two assists.
Arsenal has been linked to a move for the out of favor Manchester United forward Nani as replacement for Theo Walcott for a couple of weeks now, however with the negotiations between the young English speedster and Arsenal renewed it appears as if Arsene Wenger won’t have to spend money on new players this fall.
