Theo Walcott ready to put ambitions aside for Champions League for Arsenal
Theo Walcott insists he has placed his personal ambitions aside to focus on helping Arsenal acquire a Champions League berth. The 24-year-old England international claims he is ready to put in all of his efforts no matter at what position he plays in order to help the Gunners finish in the top four of the Premier League.
The Arsenal forward was savior for the Gunners once again following his first minute goal against Queens Park Rangers last weekend. The strike marked Theo Walcott’s 20th goal of the season. With 20 goals and 14 assists under his belt, Theo Walcott has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season.
Theo Walcott’s impressive statistics arrive in spite of him missing most parts of the season and falling out of favor for his wish to play as a striker. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has presented Theo Walcott with few chances to play up front, although Theo Walcott has recorded impressive performances as a striker.
Nonetheless, Theo Walcott has decided put his personal ambitions aside for priorities as an Arsenal player. Arsenal need to win the remaining of the two games of the season against Wigan Athletic and Newcastle United if they wish to remain in the top four of the Premier League.
“I wanted the team to be where we should be rather than reaching my personal goals,” Theo Walcott told Arsenal’s official website. “I really want us to get Champions League football because we deserve it.
“We have been up and down this season and so have a lot of clubs, but we are getting the points on the board now when it matters. We cannot worry about the other teams, just get our points on the board and try to win our last two games.
“Every game is tight and everyone is fighting for their lives. We know teams will have to come at us, but we have great strength on the counter-attack and hopefully we can utilize that.”
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has decided to choose Lukas Podolski for the striker role in his team until the suspended Oliver Giroud returns for duty.
