I'm not as convinced as others that the San Diego Chargers are all of a sudden back to being one of the top teams in the NFL, but at least on Sunday Norv Turner figured out how to win with his offense.

Chargers went to LaDainian Tomlinson early and often which finally resulted in a big day for LT (140 yards). Tomlinson gave way to Michael Turner early enough for the back up to rack 147 yards rushing on 10 carries of his own. Best of all, Philip Rivers only needed to pass 18 times. It was so bad, the Broncos are ripping fans for leaving the game early.

If Norv Turner can stick with the ratio of 37 rushes to 18 passes, the Chargers will be back to the Top 5 of the NFL. Let's see what he does next week.

Chargers only get one more game against the Broncos. Unless Jim Bates' defense is suddenly adopted by many more teams, I don't think the Chargers will get 200+ yards rushing per game.

Five or six years ago Corey Dillon set a single-game rushing yards record against the Broncos in October. Willie Parker will probably break that record on October 21. DeShawn Wynn will challenge it on October 29. About the only bright side is that both those backs are on my fantasy team.

Almost by default the Chargers are going to win the AFC West in spite of Norv. San Diego going 9-7 would be all it needs to win this division. Denver, with the worst rushing defense in the league, looks far from a playoff caliber. Kansas City, even having beaten San Diego, doesn't pose as a threat to the rest of the AFC. And Oakland, even having made some improvements, is still Oakland.

If it wasn't for the floating turd that is the NFC South, you could probably argue that the AFC West is the worst division in football.
