Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has been one of Barcelona’s top transfer prospects over the past two years. The Catalan giants made strong attempts at signing him last season, but their efforts were futile. This summer Tito Vilanova’s side is still in search of a center-back, and Thiago Silva is the top candidate for the job, yet Barcelona have made little progress in bringing him to Camp Nou.
The Brazilian defender’s agent Paulo Tonieto just recently reiterated his client’s thoughts over his stay in Paris; thus confirming that Thiago Silva was going nowhere. The agent told Paris Saint-Germain’s official website that Thiago Silva will “go to the end” of his contract with Ligue 1 champions.
The 28-year-old Brazil international slipped from Barcelona’s hands last season when he moved away from AC Milan and signed in a five-year contract with Barcelona. The La Liga champions, who have been after Thiago Silva since he was 26, need a partner for Gerard Pique in the defense.
Barcelona offered Paris Saint-Germain €32 million for Thiago Silva earlier this month, but the French football giants immediately turned down the offer since it was around €10 million lower than the transfer fees they paid AC Milan for the defender only a year ago.
In an interview to Globoesporte Thiago Silva admitted it would be “a dream” to play for Barcelona, but confessed that he had no plans of moving away. Nonetheless, his statements haven’t prevented speculation about his away move.
“Thiago Silva is a Paris Saint-Germain player, he has a contract and he's going to respect it,” Paulo Tonieto said. “The rumors exist today as they did last year, but Thiago Silva is a PSG player and he will go to the end of his contract with his club.”
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi is also confident Thiago Silva won’t move away from the club. In a statement released to Spanish newspaper Sport Nasser Al Khelaifi announced that Thiago Silva was not up for grabs in the market.
“Thiago Silva is not for sale, he will stay at the club until the end of his contract,” Nasser Al Khelaifi said.
The new Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has also confirmed that Thiago Silva is “fully committed to the PSG project” and will return to his role as leader of the team as soon as the new season begins.
