This... Is March Madness. [Day 2 NCAA Tournament Live Thread]

It's going to be really hard to follow the first day of the tournament, but today has something yesterday never did - the power of Gus Johnson. I took the liberty of putting asterisks to which games he and Len Elmore have the call to, those will most likely be the same games that include the late-second heroics and multiple overtimes.

12:15 - 15 Morgan State vs. 2 West Virginia*
12:25 - 11 Minnesota vs. 6 Xavier
12:30 - 12 Cornell vs. 5 Temple

2:30 - 13 Siena vs. 4 Purdue
2:35 - 10 Missouri vs. 7 Clemson*
2:45 - 14 Oakland vs. 3 Pittsburgh
2:50 - 13 Wofford vs. 4 Wisconsin

4:45 - 12 Utah State vs. 5 Texas A&M

7:10 - 9 Florida St vs. 8 Gonzaga*
7:15 - 10 Georgia Tech vs. 7 Oklahoma State
7:20 - 12 New Mexico State vs. 5 Michigan State
7:25 - 16 Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. 1 Duke

9:30 - 16 Vermont vs. 1 Syracuse*
9:35 - 15 UC Santa Barbara vs. 2 Ohio State
9:40 - 13 Houston vs. 4 Maryland
9:45  - 9 Louisville vs. 8 California

Today's upsets? We could possibly see even more double digits advancing. I have 11 Minnesota, 13 Siena, 10 Missouri, 12 Utah State, and 12 New Mexico State all making theirs, but 12 Cornell and 13 Houston have also been a couple of 'sexy' picks for a lot of fans and experts.

Chat up all the action here, including some of your upset picks for the day, or, if you can't remember because your sheets have already been ripped apart.

I watched all day Thursday and Friday, and I was disappointed in my Houston Coogars. They could have won that game, but they kept trying to force the inside shot when they had two or three open guys. Given that the only big run of the game was basically the difference, I think this was a otherwise a great showing for UH.

GO BUTLER!!! one sweet 16 team lets see if my other teams can come through Purdue, Michigan  State, Ohio State , Wisconsin

Out of all the Big East teams not named Syracuse, West Virginia was the most impressive....and that was after starting the game 0-11 from the field and finding themselves down 10 points.  I have Kansas over Kansas State on one side and West Virginia over Villanova on the other.  I'm like you though, I have no idea what to expect from here on out

I don't know many that took Cal over Louisville - but 22-4? Umm, wtf Rick?

I don't feel bad for NMSU on the lane violation. He committed it. Tough luck. What I don't get is how they didn't check the clock at the end though. That could've been huge.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

9-0 run for UCSB to make it 13-12 and 12-0 Cal leading..yikes.

What a huge lane violation call there, difference between a two point and three point game.

georgia tech pulls it out, and my bracket recieves a fresh breath of air. i would like to see NM St win, but that would further kill my already battered and bruised bracket

Geezus my picks are sooooo bad, I should've call my entry "The Hurt Bracket."

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

and CBS changes it to the Zaga/FSU game just to see Florida State f*** up an inbound play horribly, and turn it over.

New Mexico St. takes the lead! 53-52.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Michigan State falling asleep to start the second half like Siena did - looks like Zaga has too as both New Mexico State and Florida State are right back into both.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

New Mexico State in a whole lot of trouble.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

I like it when all four picks are right, but uh, it could be a little more exciting here, guys..

who said anything about dominating? final score is all that counts. nice game but no cigar for Siena

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Ready to watch another game not FSU/Zaga...it's a little one-sided.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Zags in control early, up 12-4. Florida State might want to think about stopping a few buckets going in instead of just trying (and also failing) at putting the ball in the cup.

Utah State ends up hurting a little, not only did I have them winning today, I had them upsetting round 2 also. Almost ready to start ripping some of these up.

3/19/10   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

...and Pitt moves on. The calls evened out over the course of the game, but there were some bad ones called both ways. Hope that crew doesn't  do the next round.

Oakland fell apart when Nelson took the elbow. Pitt will really have to step it up against Xavier though

3/19/10   |   Scott   |   52694 respect

Wisky is going to have to play a whole lot better against Cornell if they want to make the Sweet 16

3/19/10   |   kantwistaye   |   4211 respect

Game. My Elite Eight survives one more game.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Bad turnover and fortunate for Wisconsin to get away with a victory (pending Leuer missed FT's/miracle play & shot).

3/19/10   |   kantwistaye   |   4211 respect

Looking okay now as long as Leuer hits these.

3/19/10   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

Vermont could make it fun...the Big East hasn't played well, and Syracuse is running a little thin

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Wofford making it interesting here. Would love to see this along with Vermont tonight - possibly even Pine Bluff...yea, that'd be good enough for the night.

3/19/10   |   kantwistaye   |   4211 respect

I had thought the momentum had turned the Badgers way, but now Wofford has the lead again.

Mizzou up 10 on Clemson, this makes my day somewhat salvageable.

I dont know what pi$$es me off more.  Siena resulting in me another loss in my turd of a bracket or that they costed me another 5 or 6 losses in the playbook

3/19/10   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

Good effort by Siena, and a shame to see them out so early this time. Purdue doesn't look likely to make it past this weekend

Lewis ALMOST missed that first on a one and one too, but kind iron means 5 point game with 36.4.

3/19/10   |   Scott   |   52694 respect

Purdue choking away late.  Jackson misses the front end of the one and one, Siena makes a layup and Purdue's lead is 3 with just over 1 minute left

After a ball-stuck delay, Wofford ties it up 31-31 with Wisconsin.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Wofford starting the 2nd half hitting a few shots, wouldn't mind seeing at least a scare for a top 4 seed, being Siena doesn't seem like they are going to do it.

3/19/10   |   kantwistaye   |   4211 respect

I wouldn't be crushed by an Oakland win. I had Xavier in the Sweet 16. I would really like Sienna to come back against Purdue, but that's just because I hate the Boilermakers.

3/19/10   |   Scott   |   52694 respect

Can somebody go back to the locker room and tell Siena that the 2nd half of there game has started?

3/19/10   |   celticfc411   |   51 respect

The refs are sucking the big one in the Pitt game. Of the 8 called on the Panthers so far, maybe 4 or 5 were legit. And Oakland should have about 6

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

One of my fears is happening right now, Pitt looking terrible against Oakland, only down 5, but still - Pitt has to get by these first two rounds for me.

The one 12/5 that I wasn't going to go with was Cornell over Temple, but it's looking bad for the Owls.

Sure my brackets are screwed, but seeing the upsets are highly entertaining and I am hoping that it continues and we get to a "dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA" level. The only thing that has been disappointing is that there has not been enough Gus Johnson losing his mind.

3/19/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

Lawerence Westbrook is a streaky shooter that pisses me off on most occasions, but 15 points in the first half and has more than half of the offense. 26-26 at the half.
