With CF partying in Vegas, and not a lot of action in sports, it was quiet weekend on the blog. Here, I will recap what you might have missed, mostly because you probably didn't care about the sport in the first place.Boxing: Arturo Gatti's career ended Saturday night after taking a beating from former "Contender" star Alfonso Gomez. Gatti was one of this generation's top action fighters, but this bout showed that he was finished. Also Saturday night was this incredible knockout by Kermit Cintron.
Golf: Phil Mickelson had the Scottish Open in hand, until he bogeyed the 72nd hole (part of 3 bogeys in the final 5 holes). FIGJAM then hit an awful drive in the playoff (also on 18), and lost to some French guy, Gregory Havret. Jean van de Velde would be proud.
Tennis: Pete Sampras and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario were inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. What I'm wondering is why the Tennis Hall of Fame is in Newport, RI?
In other news, Russia defeated the United States in the semifinals of the Fed Cup, the women's version of Davis Cup.
IRL: Scott Dixon won the Firestone Indy 200 in Nashville. Dario "Mr. Judd" Franchitti finished 2nd, and Danica Patrick finished 3rd. Amazingly enough, nobody fought anybody afterwards.
Cycling: Michael Rasmussen won Stage 8 of the Tour de France and took control of the yellow jersey. He leads Germany's Linus Gerdemann by 43 seconds.
Soccer: The Copa America final is going on right now between Argentina and Brazil. Despite bringing must of their top guys, Argentina is trailing Brazil 3-0 late. Typical Argentine choke job.
Horse Racing: 2003 Kentucky Derby champion Funny Cide was retired. Unfortunately for Funny, he will not retire to stud because he has no balls.
Poker: They are playing down to the final table today at the World Series of Poker. You can follow the action at pokernews.com, if you are so inclined.
And that was the weekend that was.
