Can Dale Jr win one lucky fan a hundred grand? If he wins at Pocono he can

Blog Photo - This Week in NASCAR [August 4th Edition]Dale Earnhardt Jr is the NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader.

Quite the attention grabber, isn't it?  After going winless for four years, Dale Earnhardt Jr won at Michigan just a few short weeks ago, and he wants to win again....and again...and again.  Not only does he want to win, he wants to win in a dominant fashion.  And it seems the folks at Pocono want that to happen as well.  If Dale Jr wins this weekend's Cup race, they will draw for one lucky fan to win $100,000.

It seems everyone is happy Jr is the points leader.  Texas Motor Speedway is offering two front stretch tickets for $88 as long as he stays in front of the rest of the drivers.

Everywhere you look it seems there is something to commemorate Jr's lead.

And Jr himself? Well, he just wants to win more races.

This week wasn't all good news.  Penske announced earlier this week that they were releasing AJ Allmendinger as the driver of the 22 car.  Sam Hornish Jr will continue driving the car for now, but you can bet Roger's phone is ringing off the hook with calls from drivers wanting to fill that seat.  Here's hoping the Penske operation finds a quality driver who will bring good news to the team.  I'm sure the sponsors are tired of seeing their names in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

As the teams get ready to race tomorrow at Pocono, we find Juan Pablo Montoya on the pole.  Given that Pocono is a "Roval" - part road course, part oval - no one should really be surprised to see him there.  Does he have a chance to win the race? Of course, and now would be a great time for him to show that he is still a quality driver.  He is talented and only a couple of years ago was battling for the top spot in the points.  Lately though, JPM has mostly been a field filler - in the race, but not a factor.  A good race here could rejuvenate a lagging career.

I have to run off to work at the golf course now - it has been a rough week, but I'll be around tomorrow and hopefully have some time to both watch the race and to comment on what I see.  For now, give us your picks and your ideas on who would be best in the 22 car for Penske.

Before I extend congratulations to Jeff Gordon, I must offer condolences to the family and friends of race fan, Brian Zimmerman, who was struck by lightning and killed after Sunday's race at Pocono.  The race was shortened and fans were told to seek cover but get out of the grandstands.  Nine other fans were injured and taken to hospital.  My heartfelt thoughts are with them all.

And congratulations to Jeff Gordon.  All four HMS drivers now have a win this year.

HOLY CRAP! Jeff Gordon wins the shortened Pocono race  because of rain after Jimmie Johnson did a dumbass thing that he likely would not have done if rain wasn't in the area to protect the lead from Matt Kenseth as he flat out took him out. Jimmie Johnson clearly blew that win after his dumbass move. As of right now all four Hendrick cars  would be in the Chase.

Where is the news about Mr.Playboy (Denny Hamlin) getting his on and off again girlfriend knocked up? LOL, is all I'm going to say to about that one as those two apparently don't have the greatest relationship in the world.

Joey Coulter who is really under the radar at RCR because of two other young  drivers there picked up his first Truck win this afternoon at Pocono. Richard Childress says he wants to run him full time in the Nationwide Series next year. Todd " I Blame Everyone Else For My Crashes Cause I Can" Bodine showed why again he is a huge idiot. I wonder if the idiot got back his helmet after the race?
