This Week in NASCAR [November 16th Edition] It all comes down to this

Nine months after Daytona we crown a Champion

Blog Photo - This Week in NASCAR [November 16th Edition] It all comes down to thisIt all started nine months ago in Daytona.  All three series race in the first race of the season, each and every driver with hopes for the season of a lifetime, a season to top all other seasons.  For some, that dream has come true and only one more race stands in the path of the fulfillment of their ultimate season, a Series Championship.

In every single series this year, we will have a battle to the end.  We may even have three championships decided on the last lap of the last race.  Others may be determined part way through the race.  One thing is certain - It ain't over until it's over.

The Camping World Truck Series will be the first to be decided.  That race runs tonight and I have to wonder how many of the drivers in that series slept a good night's sleep last night.  Essentially we have three drivers vying for the Cup, James Buescher, Timothy Peters and Ty Dillon.  Right now James Buescher has the points lead, but Timothy Peters is only 11 points back and Ty is one behind Timothy.  James has 4 wins this season, and seems to be the favorite for the trophy, but we must not count out the other two.  Will they go for broke?  Or will they play it safe and hope the "other guy" wrecks?

Blog Photo - This Week in NASCAR [November 16th Edition] It all comes down to thisIn the Nationwide Series, Elliott Sadler was in a great position last weekend to remain in the hunt for the championship, the last chance he will have for one while driving for Richard Childress Racing in the N'wide series.  A poor decision on the track and a hunt for the same real estate changed that picture.  Although Elliott took complete responsibility for his wreck with Cole Whitt, it honestly looked to me like the 88 moved down as Elliott moved up.  Unfortunately, it is the same driver at the same track in the same race as last year, and history looks to repeat itself, meaning Elliott is unlikely to get that championship.  Ricky Stenhouse Jr seems to have it locked up, as Elliott is 20 points back, with Austin Dillon in 3rd 25 points out of first.

Again, the deficits are not insurmountable, but Ricky will undoubtedly be driving a little more carefully than he might if the championship was already his.  Elliott and Austin will pull out all the stops.

We saw Jimmie Johnson have tire problems last weekend in the Cup race, knocking him back into second, with that same 20 point deficit that plagues Elliott Sadler.  Again, it isn't insurmountable, and Brad Keselowski could certainly have a similar problem this weekend.  In fact, if you read any of the boards, it appears that most of the "Experts" are saying Brad is too cocky, too confident, too arrogant.  The focus is all on him and everyone wants a piece of him.

Will that faze Brad?  Will it make him make a critical error?  This is only Brad's third full season in Cup racing - Jimmie Johnson has more championships than Brad has years - but he has made good use of his time in racing the big boys.  He has learned.  He has said repeatedly when asked about his stats at any given track that he doesn't race the statistics, he races the track.  That is the perfect way to look at it.  He and his crew have learned from racing at the different tracks.  He may not know every bump and crack here, but if his record this year - consistently bettering himself - is any clue, Bad Brad could very well win Roger Penske his first Sprint Cup Championship.

And I'll be one proud fan, cheering him on all the way.  After all, I was one of his earlier followers on twitter.  That's why my name was on his truck lid.

I have no idea how the race will play out, but it has been a good season.  It hasn't been a great one, but I think NASCAR has done some good things.  I only hope they will continue to do good things, and not go backwards.

So, as we gear up for the final races of the 2012 season, I'll say it one last time, "Drivers! Let's go racing!"

Pre race show is pretty good so far. Brad was Mr Cool in the interview with Jimmie. I agree all the pressure is on Brad. I do hope he keeps himself in check today and wins the Championship.

I am so pleased for Regan! He is definitely a class act.  Just goes to show what a great driver behind the wheel of quality equipment can do, doesn't it?  That young man will have a lot of fans in his future, that's for sure!

Congratulations to Ricky Stenhouse Jr.  I understand he didn't like what his crew chief was telling him and almost got himself caught up in a wreck.  MUST get up early tomorrow to catch every minute of Raceday!!

Yeah his spotter was telling him "LET THE 11 GO THIS TIME, I'M TELLING YOU!"  He just flat out ignored his spotter.  He was close to wrecking himself out a couple times after the last restart.

Regan Smith hopes in for his first start with JR Motorsports and basically out does everything she did over there this year as he won. Yeah, she truly is an awful race car driver as opposed to people blaming the equipment.

Congrats to Regan Smith for winning the race, Ricky Stenhouse for repeating as Nationwide Champion.

I saw replays last night, but not too many.  I'll catch more tomorrow morning on Raceday, I'm sure.  I get what Duncan is saying about the Busch brother tho, and also what you are saying about the reporters (without having to see any replays of that!)

The reporters are like the tabloids some times!  In a driver's face, telling him so and so said this about what happened out there.  For the most part it doesn't work, but add someone with a temper (ie Todd Bodine, Kurt Busch, etc) into the mix and you have tabloid material.  I prefer when they say "I don't think you've seen this yet, so we'll play it for you and can you describe what's happening there"

Often you get a "oh, that's not what it looked like/felt like in the car, but I guess......."

I agree and sometimes the spotters can't see everything and mis inform the drivers...

Prolly not, besides you and me, Mike follows but I am sure he knows already...did you catch any of the interviews? I get now why some drivers get pissed...quite a few of the "reporters" try to instigate crap...

edited to add: Lord I thought I was replying to Debi. I am so used to her and I having discussions here. Sorry Duncan, but same question applies to you.

I didn't see it live but saw a replay of that. My first thought of seeing that it reminded me of another finish the other Busch brother had back in the day.  Hope I didn't give it away for anyone that didn't see it.

And to Cale Gale for winning the race!! Wow, just got home from work and no one even watched the race - I'll try to catch replays!

James Buescher apparently did exactly what he needed to do, so huge congrats to him!  He'll make a great champion!

Excellent! I too will be cheering Bad Brad onto his first Championship. (hopefully). Patience will be a virtue Brad is associated  with well, if he listens to his elders. Jimmie can win another and maybe he will, but having the Championship decided in the last race and not a gimme is very exciting. Looking forward to the whole weekend of racing. Good luck to all the drivers.
