Hell of a week in the profession of high school coaching. They say bad things always happen in threes ... We all had creepy high school coaches, or at least knew of one at our high school. Of course, I doubt many had a coach that topped these three fine upstanding gentlemen.
Deadpsin brought the entertaining news of a 40-year old track coach North Carolina track coach, Brenton Wuchae, marrying a 16 year old student and runner on the team. Why? Well, he got her pregnant. As you can imagine that's gone over real well with the parents.
Somehow making Mr. Wuchae seem upstanding, there's Mel Hall who was arrested Thursday.
The 46-year-old Hall was released from jail Friday on $35,000 bail. He was arrested the previous day on charges of sexual assault of a child under 17 and aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, police said Saturday. The second charge carries a possible life sentence because of the age of the alleged victim. And because we always love a good high school football scandal, and no team is successful unless they cheat, Hoover High of Two-A-Days fame is in some trouble.
Hoover’s football program is entrenched in a grade-changing scandal that has caused the resignation of athletics director Jerry Browning, who cited philosophical differences with the school’s leaders, according to the Birmingham News. Former U.S. district judge Sam C. Pointer Jr. will lead the school’s investigation.Embracing the Two-a-Day head coach Rush Propst is also getting reporters fired for gossiping about an affair he's surely having.
Solid week in the high school coaching profession. More to come I'm sure.
