Earlier today while i was at work, i took it upon myself to look up stats around the league too try and justify what players are hall of famers and which are not. During my travels (or surfing) i looked up some of mines' and your's favorites such as Troy Polamalu (even though he hasn't been in the league long enough or done enough, i wanted to check what pace he was on), Ed Reed (who i am fairly sure is a hall of famer even if he retired now) and compared them to Brian Dawkins (who is most certainly a lock). Among these travels i decided to give a shot to a guy who is not always Philly's favorite, but is one of my favorite quarter backs in the league. Enter Donovan Mcnabb. What we have to understand about D MAC is that because of his playing in Philadelphia his bad greatly overshadow's his good. Therefore I am going to go purely off numbers in the beginning. I went to the Hall of Fame website and looked up some of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game and compared some numbers.

DISCLAIMER: Mind you, i am not saying Mcnabb is better then any of these players but look at the stats and i will state my "hypothetical" arguement at the end.

Now, i chose the three quarter backs to compare only because they are some of the more recent qb's who have been inducted. You may recall earlier that i said hypothetical. The reason i said that was because 2 of the four mentioned above have rings (while mcnabb, obviously and painfully does not), and Jim Kelly has almost had 4 rings plus has led his team to the afc game 8 times. These are all great accomplishments. For Mcnabb, the biggest problem has been injuries in his career. A lot may say it was lack of weapons (or lack of clutch moments), and i completely agree, but when they induct qb's they don't say, "well wait a minute, steve young has the greatest reciever that ever lived." Therefore i won't include that argument. Now as you can see, Mcnabb has a great passer rating and a good completion percentage. However, i think what gives him the edge is his touchdown to interception ratio. Although he hasn't thrown enough enough touchdowns compared to jim kelly or griese, he has rushed for a crap load of them which puts his touchdown total high on the chart. Also he rushing yards don't hurt either. The biggest hurt to his pro bowl career has been not having a Super Bowl to fall back on, and that would plague him if he ends his career now. Although, I believe that Mcnabb can be a hall of famer now (but that just might be the fan speaking) but with a ring and 3 more average years, i think he's a hall of famer for certain. Do i think he can win a ring? on a better team, yes. Do i think he can play 3 more years,? Absolutely. But only time will tell, and i'll be rooting as the minutes tick by.
