Who thinks today should be a national holiday? Well, that goes with out saying.

Let's get to the games (in order of start time).

No. 3 Michigan State vs. No. 14 Valparaiso
Midwest Region from Auburn Hill, MI
12:15 p.m. ET, CBS
Michigan State kicks off the tournament against Horizon League champion Valparaiso. This isn't Bryce Drew's Valpo team, so don't expect a big upset here.
My pick: Michigan State

No. 6 Butler vs. No. 11 Bucknell

East Region from Lexington, KY
12:40 p.m. ET, truTV
Big battle of B's here. Behing Brad Stevens, Butler is a big bad bully. Be shocked if the Bulldogs blunder.
My pick: Butler

No. 8 Pittsburgh vs. No. 9 Wichita State

West Region from Salt Lake City
1:40 p.m. ET, TBS
A classic mid-major versus major-major conference battle. Pitt is definitely more battle-tested, be don't be surprised if there is a shocker (pun intended), here.
My pick: Wichita State

No. 4 Saint Louis vs. No. 13 New Mexico State

Midwest Region from San Jose, CA
2:10 p.m. ET, TNT
Most of America has probably never seen Saint Louis play. Those of you who haven't are in for a treat.
My pick: Saint Louis

No. 6 Memphis vs. No. 11 Saint Mary's

Midwest Region from Auburn Hills, MI
2:45 p.m. ET, CBS
The Gaels defeated Middle Tennessee State yesterday to earn their way into the main draw. I doubt their run goes beyond today.
My pick: Memphis

Mar 11, 2013; Asheville, NC, USA; Davidson Wildcats head coach Bob McKillop talks with forward Jake Cohen (15) during the second half against the Charleston Cougars in the championship game of the Southern Conference Tournament at US Cellular Center. Davidson defeated Charleston 74-55. Mandatory Credit: Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY SportsNo. 3 Marquette vs. No. 14 Davidson

East Region from Lexington, KY
3:10 p.m. ET, truTV
Marquette is one of the more generous No. 3 seeds, especially given its record away from home. Davidson is always a solid tournament competitor. Upset special? I think so!
My pick: Davidson

Feb 27, 2013; Fort Worth, TX, USA; Oklahoma State Cowboys guard Marcus Smart (33) guards against TCU Horned Frogs guard Kyan Anderson (5) during the second half at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Oklahoma State Cowboys won 64-47. Mandatory Credit: Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY SportsNo. 1 Gonzaga vs. No. 16 Southern
West Region from Salt Lake City
4:10 p.m. ET, TBS
The Zags are out to prove that despite their conference, they are a title contender. That starts against SWAC champion, Southern.
My pick: Gonzaga

No. 5 Oklahoma State vs. No. 12 Oregon

Midwest Region from San Jose, CA
4:40 p.m. ET, TNT
This is one of the most intriguing opening round match ups, as the Cowboys are as talented as any team in the country and the Ducks are likely angry about being under-seeded after winning the Pac-12 Tournament.
My pick: Oklahoma State

No. 1 Louisville vs. No. 16 North Carolina A&T

Midwest Region from Lexington, KY
6:50 p.m. ET
The Cardinals are the No. 1 overall seed and North Carolina A&T needed to win a play-in game to get to the tourney. Need I say more?
My pick: Louisville

March 10, 2013; Ann Arbor, MI, USA; Michigan Wolverines guard Trey Burke (3) reacts during the game against the Indiana Hoosiers at Crisler Center. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY SportsNo. 4 Michigan vs. No. 13 South Dakota State

South Region from Auburn Hills, MI
7:15 p.m. ET, CBS
Michigan was in contention for a No. 1 seed until just a few weeks ago, so the Wolverines have a big advantage here. South Dakota State does have one of the nation's most prolific scorers in Nate Wolters though.
My pick: Michigan

No. 6 Arizona vs. No. 11 Belmont

West Region from Salt Lake City
7:20 p.m. ET, TNT
The Wildcats were a top-five team earlier this season. Remember those days? Now they aren't even a top-five seed. Still, they have enough for one round.
My pick: Arizona

Head to page 3 for the rest of Day 1!

No. 5 UNLV vs. No. 12 California
East Region from San Jose, CA
7:27 p.m. ET, truTV
Even as a No. 12 seed, the Golden Bears get a de facto home game. Still, Mike Montgomery isn't exactly known for winning as an underdog (or a favorite) in the NCAA Tournament.
My pick: UNLV

Mar 15, 2013; Nashville, TN, USA; Missouri Tigers guard Phil Pressey (1) drives against the Mississippi Rebels during the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament at Bridgestone Arena. The Rebels beat the Tigers 64-62. Mandatory Credit: Don McPeak-USA TODAY SportsNo. 8 Colorado State vs. No. 9 Missouri

Midwest Region from Lexington, KY
9:20 p.m. ET, TBS
One of the most interesting opening-round games pits an overachieving team in Colorado State versus an underachieving team in Missouri.
My pick: Missouri

No. 5 VCU vs. No. 12 Akron

South Region from Auburn Hills, MI
9:45 p.m. ET, CBS
No. 12 seems like a high seed for Akron. VCU is a strong tournament team. You do the math.
My pick: VCU

No. 3 New Mexico vs. No. 14 Harvard

West Region from Salt Lake City
9:50 p.m. ET, TNT
Mar 16, 2013; Missoula, MT, USA; Montana Grizzlies head coach Wayne Tinkle talks with his team during a timeout against the Weber State Wildcats during the championship game of the Big Sky Conference tournament at Dahlberg Arena. The Grizzlies beat the Wildcats by a final score of 67-64. Mandatory Credit: James Snook-USA TODAY SportsThe Ivy League is never exactly a basketball super conference, and this was a down year for it. Doesn't bode well for the Crimson.
My pick: New Mexico

No. 4 Syracuse vs. No. 13 Montana

East Region from San Jose, CA
9:57 p.m. ET, truTV
Montana can shoot the three over Syracuse's zone and Wayne Tinkle's squad is playing (relatively) close to home. The Grizzlies will still lose.
My pick: Syracuse

Cuse and Montana both took 5 shots from the field... Montana trails by 23...

3/21/13   |   orangemen90   |   5785 respect

Go Orange!!! Good late night game for the Cuse!!!

3/21/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

So it turns out if your point guard gets arrested for drug trafficking and suspended, it won't end well if you have to play VCU and the Havoc defense.

3/21/13   |   Jess   |   34614 respect

Go Griz! (I really couldn't care less, but my mom is a Griz fan, so I'll support her guys)

3/21/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

I'm not prepared for Harvard to be the Cinderella of this tournament.

3/21/13   |   orangemen90   |   5785 respect

Go Cuse!!!!

3/21/13   |   RaiderSteeler15   |   21272 respect

VCU is laying the smackdown on the Akron Zips...

3/21/13   |   AlwaysSunshine   |   7383 respect

Louisville.  heart

Like a boss.

3/21/13   |   RaiderSteeler15   |   21272 respect

How about those Golden Bears pulling an upset over the Runnin' Rebels.

3/21/13   |   Scott   |   52667 respect

Missouri looks completely disinterested in this game.  Colorado State looks like a team on a mission

having watched a lot of Pac-12 and MWC games, I'm not surprised at Cal and Oregon winning at all. I actually thought Cal would win by more

3/21/13   |   orangemen90   |   5785 respect

Almost time for my school to play... tough when an east coast team plays at 10... but its all a game...

Is another 12 seed Pac-12 team headed to upset a 5 seed?

3/21/13   |   Scott   |   52667 respect

I really thought Belmont would give Arizona more of a game.

Good thing I have a warning label on my twitter feed so nobody was surprised.

Though I have both Louisville and Miami going fairly far in this thing I hope they both get knocked out as soon as humanly possible to eliminate the scores that selected those two teams to win it all.

Thoughts.. Officiating has been somewhat uneven today.. and the unemployed coach on cbs's half time show seems to think he;s is auditioning for a head coach job.. always wanting the coach to tell if he is leaving or not in interviews..which makes the TNT talking heads much better than these guys;;;

3/21/13   |   Jess   |   34614 respect

Gonzaga gives me heartburn.

3/21/13   |   kobe_lova   |   61501 respect

Yep. Univ. of Phoenix or DeVry would have had a better showing.

shooting has been atrocious today.. especially among my picks

Sure

what all of them below said

but not really

its madness ... ok

3/21/13   |   Jess   |   34614 respect

I don't even remember who I picked - I just pointed and clicked for the most part. And I'm not delusional enough to think Gonzaga's gonna win it all but since I can't win any prizes anyway I picked them. Because I love them. GO ZAGS!

My bracket should be busted by tomorrow night. I have a crazy feeling that 25 or so of my coin flips weren't good ones.

3/21/13   |   woody050681   |   13688 respect

My bracket is perfect so far!

3/21/13   |   kobe_lova   |   61501 respect

Go basketball! I don't know who I picked in any bracket, so just GOOO!

The only thing I don't like about this time of year is the interrrupting of shows I watch. I think today interrupts My Jesus... rude.

3/21/13   |   JenX63   |   32618 respect

I'm not watching any of the games per se...but I am happy to see I picked some of the same teams you did.

Oh, and yes, I've always felt the Thursday and Friday of the NCAA tournament should be a national holiday yes

3/21/13   |   Scott   |   52667 respect

Don't sleep on Bucknell.  If Butler plays this game like they did down the stretch in conference play, the Bison could pull off another upset
