Will the Blues be the team to finally end Chicago's streak? [NHL Live Thread]

Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 2/28Greetings, puckheads! My co-hosts and I would like to welcome you to NHL Hockey on FanIQ! Another full slate of hockey, with only 8 teams out of the action tonight. Unfortunately there's only one game being nationally aired on NHL Network, but at least it should be a good game.

Anything I have to say about tonight can be found below, so without further ado...

7:00pm
Game: Senators (12-6-2) @ Bruins (12-2-2)
Broadcast: SNET-E, TVA, NESN
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - Whoa – this is going to be a good one. The Bruins are trying to solidify their spot, and the Sens are on a rip. I know injuries were thought to be a concern for Ottawa but I almost wonder if their latest success despite them is just revealing some diamonds in the depth chart. I’m going to have to pick Boston but I will not be surprised if I’m proven wrong.

BK - Ottawa has been playing very well despite all their injuries, but this one will be a hell of a battle. I don't see them winning tonight, the B's take it to Ottawa in Beantown.

Debi - This is a really tough one, and it will be one helluva game, I predict. The Sens seem to have rebounded just fine after the injury to Erik Karlsson, and have managed to stay on the winning side. Both teams are courting winning streaks, and are tied in the standings, but Boston has played fewer games, I believe. Boston is probably the favorite, but I'll remain a true Canuck and say the Sens take this one away from the Bruins at home.

7:00pm
Game: Maple Leafs (12-9-0) @ Islanders (8-11-1)
Broadcast: SNET-O, MSG PLUS
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - Every time I pick against the Isles, they win. My initial thought is that the Leafs win, but the Islanders are at home. Toronto’s in a little pattern these past couple of weeks though, W-L-W-L-W-L…ah heck, I’ll say they continue that pattern and bring home the W.

BK - The Isles are already slated for a FEH! when I do the report cards next week. I gotta take the Leafs in this one.

Debi - I watched part of the Leafs game against the Habs last night, and although they were tied while I was watching, the didn't seem to be able to keep control of the puck. I think they have hit a bit of a slump as of late. Unfortunately, I think the Isles have a really crappy home game record going. Awww, I'll take the Islanders, although it will probably come back to bite me.

7:00pm
Game: Lightning (9-9-1) @ Rangers (8-8-2)
Broadcast: RDS, SUN, MSG
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - Rangers! You’re KILLIN me! Well, they’re home, and they’ve beat these guys twice before. If there’s any team in the league that will be a good boost for this New York offense right now, it’s the Bolts. I’m giving them one more chance to help my picks percentage. Rangers.

BK - The Rangers have matched up quite well with the Bolts this year. I don't see the Rangers losing this one on home ice tonight as bad as Tampa has been on the road.

Debi - Gotta take the Rangers

Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 2/287:00pm
Game: Penguins (13-7-0) @ Hurricanes (9-8-1)
Broadcast: NHLN-US, FS-CR
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - The Penguins had a tough loss last game, and though they’re on the road I think they bounce back tonight. They may take this game in to overtime, because the Hurricanes won’t take it lying down, but I bet they win it. Staal and Sutter will likely have a big game though, and Skinner’s back, so the Pens will need to win it on offense. That might be tough with Ward in net, but…why am I talking myself out of this? I’m going with my first instinct. Pens.

BK - Hey I finally get to see Jordan Staal tonight against his old team. I wish Malkin was in the lineup, he gives Cam Ward nightmares. That said, I gotta believe they still have it in them to bounce back. Pens win it on the road!

Debi - Tossup. Buuuuuut because I know Bryan loves his Pens as much as I love my Flames, I'll take the Hurricanes and let Jess break the tie :)

7:30pm
Game: Sabres (7-12-1) @ Panthers (6-9-4)
Broadcast: MSG-B, FS-F
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - This would undoubtedly be my “Woof” game. Gross. Panthers.

BK - Jess, I agree with the "woof," but I'm taking Buffalo because of Ryan Miller.

Debi - The Panthers have some major momentum after defeating the Pens the other night, so I'll take them for the win tonight.

8:00pm
Game: Devils (10-5-4) @ Jets (9-9-1)
Broadcast: MSG PLUS 2, TSN, JETS
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - The Devils are in a slump and the Jets are having a string of good fortune. I’ll take the home team.

BK - Pencil me out for this one cause I have no freaking clue.

Debi - Jets! Jets! JETS!!

8:00pm
Game: Blackhawks (16-0-3) @ Blues (10-6-2)
Broadcast: CSN-CH, FS-MW
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - I keep saying “one of these games” with the Blackhawks…and I also keep saying it won’t be at home. Well, they’re not at home tonight, and they’re playing a team that’s getting its ish together again. I’m going out on a limb and say the Blackhawks finally get beat in regulation tonight

BK - This is the night it finally happens, Blues deal the Hawks their first regulation loss.

Debi - Can the Blackhawks really do anything wrong? They may not lose until they meet the Ducks again, and that isn't until March 20th. The road trip everyone is saying may give them some problems probably won't. The Blues don't have a chance, I don't think.

8:30pm
Game: Oilers (7-7-4) @ Stars (10-8-2)
Broadcast: SNET-W, FS-SW
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - …

BK - Ugh, Stars win and it'll probably be a laugher.

Debi - Okay, I know Jess won't take the Stars, and I really don't like the Oilers, so I'll leave this for Bryan to tie break. Stars it is.

9:00pm
Game: Flames (7-7-4) @ Avalanche (7-8-3)
Broadcast: SNET-CGY, ALT
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - Oh man this poor Avalanche team. Drama, lack of discipline, and under-performance is making them beat themselves regularly. I know they’re at home tonight, but the Flames are no slouches on the road. Flames win.

BK - What's up with these teams? I'm taking the Flames for my co-host even though she never picks my team to win. :p

Debi - The big story in this matchup is Bob Hartley. Now he's coaching the Flames, but he used to coach the Avs. Presumably he knows how they play and that might give the Flames some advantage, if they can start playing as a team, and not just six individual players on the ice. Aww who am I kidding, of course I take the Flames!!

Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 2/289:00pm
Game: Wild (9-7-2) @ Coyotes (9-7-3)
Broadcast: FS-N, FS-WI, FS-A
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - This isn’t a sexy game, but it’s my pick for the Game of the Night. Both teams are strong right now, both are coming off of wins, and both are just outside the playoff picture. They’ll both come out fighting. I’m picking the Yotes for 3 reasons: 1 – They’re better at home. 2 – They seem to have Minnesota’s number, as they’re 9-2-2 against them. 3 – The Wild stink on the road. But again, I’m prepared to be wrong.

BK - Wile E. Coyotes...yeah, I did it. Neither team has impressed me much this year. I'll take the home team.

Debi - This one is another toss up for me. I have no clue, so flipping the coin........Yotes it is!

10:30pm
Game: Red Wings (9-8-3) @ Sharks (10-5-4)
Broadcast: FS-D, CSN-CA
Place QBucks Bets!
Picks:
Jess - Sharks.

BK - I want the Sharks to win on their home ice, but those damn Wings are hanging around. I still gotta go with San Jose.

Debi - Ugh!!! Okay, I have no clue in this game, but I'll take the Sharks.

And now we get to watch some great plays from last night's games!

Obviously last night was a good night for me and some other So.Cal. hockey fans on the site.

Evidently.

YAY always good to see the Stars obliterated!
(I got sidetracked...the Zags are on)

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

The Stars are getting obliterated by the Oilers, 4-0!

2/28/13   |   Debi_L   |   11846 respect

Instead I am watching Crashed Ice - watching the local dude, Adam Horst, a firefighter from Fort St. John, trying to win.  He has made it thru the first round.....

2/28/13   |   Debi_L   |   11846 respect

I don't have a SINGLE game on TV tonight!! I am so choked!!!!!

Updates tell me the Flames are ahead 3-0 with the last goal scored by IGGY!!!

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Whoa, the Flames are all over the Avs, 3-0 and it's still the first period!

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

Nash with a goal! 4-1

(I find it funny that I talk more in here when my team isn't playing than I do when they are...I don't spew the expletives when it's not my team, maybe that's why.)

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

I can't watch or listen to anymore tonight.  It's 4-1 Canes.  I cannot believe how badly this game has spiraled out of control.crying

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

Looks like that was Staal's goal but if he wouldn't have had it, Callahan would have been able to tap it in

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

GOOAAAAAL Rangers! That was a cluster-eff...I dunno who scored it.

2/28/13   |   Dan_B   |   1067 respect

Oh, and Rick Nash has 8 of them.

2/28/13   |   Dan_B   |   1067 respect

The Rangers are outshooting the Lightning 30-6. I would really prefer if it was more than a one-goal game!

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

3-1...the Pens need to wake up NOW!  They are better than to start playing like complete s*** for an entire week!

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Grrrrr...2-1 Canes.angry

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Whoa, that didn't take long, Toews scores 12 seconds into the game!  Is that perhaps the kiss of death though scoring THAT quickly?

2/28/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Pens score the first goal of the game, but Eric Staal ties it up with less than 30 seconds to go...UGH!

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

(Edited by Jess)

TB scores, 2-1

(Rangers have 20 shots on goal so far in the first period. Without looking, I would venture to guess there have been entire games they don't get that many SOG)

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

FIIIIIIIIIGHT!

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

Rangers score again! 2-0

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

Rangers score right after the PP is over - I've always thought the most dangerous time for a team is directly AFTER they kill a penalty. Seems an awful lot of goals are scored in those few seconds.

2/28/13   |   Jess   |   34608 respect

Rangers are looking great so far - no goals, but they're controlling it in TB's zone really well, taking some shots.
