Tiger Woods: Have We Already Seen His Best?
Have We Already Seen The Best Of Tiger?
I know it sounds absolutely crazy, but it seems to be a valid question. Have we already seen the best of Tiger Woods?

This weekend, Tiger did pretty much the unthinkable. He was in the final pairing of a huge golf tournament...and completely imploded. He shot a 38 on the front nine, and by the time he finished, no one was paying attention to him since Henrik Stenson had already won.

I know the Players Championship isn't a major, but it's the biggest tournament outside of the majors, and it's something every player wants to win. So dismissing Woods' finish at Sawgrass makes little sense.

But perhaps his more disturbing finish was at Augusta. He made a huge run along with Phil Mickelson to climb into contention and then, just like Lefty, he choked down the stretch. It was strange to watch.

Part of me says, look, Woods is coming off of major surgery. He's played quite well for a guy coming off a major injury. An ACL tear, while not nearly as damaging to your career now as it was 20 years ago, is still an injury that takes generally about a year plus to recover from.

But I just can't stop thinking about how off Tiger looks these days. His tee shots are a nightmare and more importantly than that, his extreme clutchness suddenly seems to vanished. He's no longer sticking putts he used to. He's no longer intimidating opponents simply by showing up at tournaments. He's no longer making the impossible look easy.

Perhaps, as some people are suggesting, this can all be solved by having Woods change his swing coach. Perhaps, again, it's just Tiger working off the rust. But the problem is that in sports, as soon as opponents sense a weakness, they move in for the kill. Right now Woods is very beatable, and guys know that. Part of his mystique seems to be crumbling each week, and once that's gone, it's hard to get it back.

I'm of the belief that Woods will ultimately get things squared away and return to form and ultimately pass Nicklaus in career majors, but I think it'll be a lot closer than we all thought it would be 3 or 4 years ago. The days of the Tiger Slam are over, and they're never coming back.

Yea, but when I watch golf I like to be bored. Thats what I chose to do! Its golf, its relaxation, its not supposed to be like basketball or football and last second plays. imo

I think he has a grand slam left in him ... all 4 majors in 1 year.

$100 says he's gonna win more Majors........anyone wanna take that action ???

Let's face it, he's still coming off of major surgery.     And, remember that he was hurt last year, and adjusted his swing to compensate for the bum knee............so he still has to overcome that.     Plus.....just a year earlier, he had changed his swing to begin with !!

Other than that, not too much has changed for ol' Tiger then....huh ????????

Oh yeah, and he's still finishing in the Top 10 in the World after all of this, and he's banging out babies with his Swedish swimsuit model wife...............and getting about a bazillion dollars doing commercials............hey Tiger, wanna trade ?!?!      (lol)

Tiger Woods 2 over on a VERY difficult golf course is not what I call imploding. What I do call imploding is being up by 5 shots and shooting 7 over. Also, if you happen to know anything about Tiger and history at The Players, you should know that it's not good. AT ALL. Let's take a look:

This year, after knee surgery, Tiger finishes 8th after shooting 2 over in final round, everyone questions Tiger's dominance. This is Tiger's BEST finish since winning in 2001.
Here are his finishes:
2009 - 8th
2008 - DNP
2007 - 37th
2006 - 22nd
2005 - 53rd
2004 - 16th
2003 - 11th
2002 - 14th
2001 - 1st
2000 - 2nd
1999 - 10th
1998 - 35th
1997 - 31st

To claim that Tiger has lost it is simply retarded.

well to each his own. Golf can have its moments just like any other sport.

I actually stopped on the Golf Channel to take a gander and from what I gathered they are saying since he used to work on his upper body all the time and couldn't with his lower due to the knee he's having issues cause now he's in perfect health.  He's got to get his timing, mechanics and body all together so that they are in harmony.  I think it'll be about half a year or so and he'll figure it out he's driven as hell and I don't think this lull will be sustained.

Don't hate... Tiger still got it.. He just has to get back in the swing of things.. He still made a bit of an impression when he knocked that ball out of the woods, stroking the ball from the left(when he always strokes from the right) and having to turn his putter upside down to do it.  I dont watch a lot of golf, but that was soooo cool..

I think we've just been spoiled by the success that Tiger has had throughout his career. When you win half of the tournaments you play every year, 4 or 5 Top 10's without a win seems pretty crappy.

I have to laugh (ha-ha) cause every time I hear someone (or myself) think Tiger is out of it...done...finished, he finds a way to win again. Tiger  ending his golf career as a mediocre player? Fughetabboutit! Please, this is another long line of article giving their demise of the great slammer Mr. Woods. He is too mentally tough to just sit back and let everyone else steal a win from him.

If his knee(s) are still bothering him he may be best to just rest up till he can recoup; if it is a check in his stroke or swing then that's fine too. He came back to professional play what, about three months ago or so? Already folks are ready to bury his golf bag and his "tiger" sock eulogizing the once great Tiger Woods.

You're kidding right?

And in case you need a refresher course on "Tiger 101" examine Exhibit A: www.youtube.com/watch

Although, now that I think about it, he does have one win this year and 5 top 10s in only 6 events, and finds himself number 7 on the money list and number 9 in the FedEx Cup standings, which would be considered a phenomenal year for anyone else on tour not named Phil.
