Tiger Woods To Undergo Season Ending Knee Surgery [Tiger's Website Confirms]
Is Jack Nicklaus' Record 18 Major Wins Safe?
READ MORE:

Shocking news this morning coming from sources such as The Golf Channel that Tiger Woods will be undergoing season ending knee surgery:
According to sources, Tiger Woods has made a decision to go ahead with season-ending knee surgery.

He experienced a small stress fracture in his left leg about two weeks before the U.S. Open, which was causing him the pain, and ultimately the doctors feel that he needs ACL surgery and rest to get him back to 100%
That sound you hear is the rest of the tour golfers cashing in. Great financial gains will be had by the rest of the golfers, but you can be sure PGA commish Tim Finchem isn't too happy this morning as his TV ratings will take a beating during the second half of the season.

So I guess this means Tiger Woods wasn't embellishing his pain, a la Paul Pierce. Perhaps, Retief Goosen wants to reconsider his comments earlier this week when asked if he thought Tiger was faking it:
“I think so. It just seemed that when he hit a bad shot his knee was in pain and on his good shots he wasn’t in pain. You see when he made the putts and he went down on his knees and was shouting, ‘Yeah’, his knee wasn’t sore.
You have to assume Tiger rushed his comeback to appease NBC and the U.S. Open, who rely so heavily on his appearance. Seeing how much pain he was in on day one, before all the wear and tear over the weekend, led me to believe he was nowhere close to ready. Just goes to show how talented Woods is to overcome that injury and maintain his poise through 91 holes.

This also should ignite some doubt about whether Woods will ever fully recover from these surgeries. Is it possible Tiger will never shake this left knee issue and Jack Nicklaus' 18 major wins record is safe? This certainly makes his chase more interesting instead of inevitable.

I don't think this is any huge deal, considering how amazing medicine has gotten these days. Knee injuries like a full ACL tear used to end a guy's career, now they come back in less than a year.

After seeing how Willis McGahee recovered so quickly, I'm pretty convinced that athletes can come back from just about anything these days.

That just makes his win this past weekend all that more amazing.  He's better than the rest of the world on one knee.  What golf could use is Mickleson winning the British and PGA that way when Tiger comes back they have their little rivalry that everyone wants to see happen so bad.

Tiger is 32. Let's say it takes him two years to recover from this (but I bet it is sooner than that.) So, at 34 he is back at full strength and challenging for four majors a year for around another 10 years. He has 40 legit chances at 4 wins. I think he will break it. Now there is a chance that he doesn't recover and then all bets are off but we are talking about a man who essentially just won a Major on one leg. I think he will bounce back...
