Shocking news this morning coming from sources such as The Golf Channel that Tiger Woods will be undergoing season ending knee surgery:
According to sources, Tiger Woods has made a decision to go ahead with season-ending knee surgery. That sound you hear is the rest of the tour golfers cashing in. Great financial gains will be had by the rest of the golfers, but you can be sure PGA commish Tim Finchem isn't too happy this morning as his TV ratings will take a beating during the second half of the season.
He experienced a small stress fracture in his left leg about two weeks before the U.S. Open, which was causing him the pain, and ultimately the doctors feel that he needs ACL surgery and rest to get him back to 100%
So I guess this means Tiger Woods wasn't embellishing his pain, a la Paul Pierce. Perhaps, Retief Goosen wants to reconsider his comments earlier this week when asked if he thought Tiger was faking it:
“I think so. It just seemed that when he hit a bad shot his knee was in pain and on his good shots he wasn’t in pain. You see when he made the putts and he went down on his knees and was shouting, ‘Yeah’, his knee wasn’t sore. You have to assume Tiger rushed his comeback to appease NBC and the U.S. Open, who rely so heavily on his appearance. Seeing how much pain he was in on day one, before all the wear and tear over the weekend, led me to believe he was nowhere close to ready. Just goes to show how talented Woods is to overcome that injury and maintain his poise through 91 holes.
This also should ignite some doubt about whether Woods will ever fully recover from these surgeries. Is it possible Tiger will never shake this left knee issue and Jack Nicklaus' 18 major wins record is safe? This certainly makes his chase more interesting instead of inevitable.
