Tigers' Andre Allen Suspended For Failing Drug Test; UCLA Gets First Break
READ MORE:
For the people out there that think there's some conspiracy going on to make the UCLA Bruins this year's national champions, you just got some more ammo.

Backup point guard Andre Allen was suspended Wednesday from the University of Memphis basketball team for failing a random drug test and did not make the trip to San Antonio for the Final Four.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was marijuana.

Naturally, John Calipari has kicked Allen off the team for good. Oh wait, no he hasn't. Calipari said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of Allen playing Monday if the Tigers reach the NCAA championship game.

Well, ok, maybe this was just his first real offense. Oh wait, no it isn't. In 2005 Allen was arrested for soliciting a prostitute, but the case was eventually dismissed.

So yeah, no reason to kick off the team.

Now let's get to what advantage UCLA picks up with this suspension. Allen backs up Derrick Rose, and averages usually between 10-20 minutes a game, so this is bad for Memphis. Well, that's what you'd think. Considering Allen is putting up a robust 3.3 points per game and shooting 42% from the free-throw line, I don't think it's beyond the pale to think maybe Memphis was responsible for hitting him with this random drug test.

I mean, if were Memphis, I'd be doing everything possible to keep this guy from ever entering a game. I mean hell, Calipari could probably insert the team manager and get better production.

Yeah, no question UCLA is going to benefit immensely from this suspension.

So I'm confused.  Does the suspension help or hurt UCLA.  First you say the suspension furthers the idea that there's a conspiracy afoot to make UCLA the champs then you describe what a bad player Allen is anyway so his absence actually helps Memphis.  What is it?

More so the conspiracy that it seems everything is going UCLA's way this year. From the call in the Stanford game, then the Cal game with the no call and the over the backboard shot, then the no call in the A&M game, and now this. It all just seems very fortunate that all of these things have happened this season for UCLA.

I was just attempting to make it seem like this was a major break for UCLA, then making it clear that it in fact will probably have little to no outcome on the game.

It's essentially making fun of people who think there's some UCLA conspiracy.

Well, maybe there is. But not in this case.

Sure sure, I was only busting your chops (as they say).  But seriously, Allen averages 14 minutes 3 points and 2 assists a game.  Those are significant numbers. And he spells Derrick Rose.  Don't think that just because Rose is a teenager he can play forty minutes (ask Syracuse's Johnny Flynn about that).  All this plus the distraction it creates - I think it definitely hurts Memphis.  Perhaps there's something to this conspiracy theory after all.
