David Stern and many others labeled the Tim Donaghy scandal as the biggest PR hit in league history. 4 months later I'm wondering how many fans remain jaded. I should rephrase, you're likely jaded unless you're a Spurs fan. Have you become more or less optimistic that the NBA officiating will change for the better? For many years I've thought the NBA's biggest issue was inconsistent officiating (followed closely by flopping). Certainly Tim Donaghy aided the poor officiating, but he's not alone. Hopefully this scandal forced David Stern to not just give us lip service that the league would more seriously evaluate its official, but to actually DO IT.
I'm optimistic we'll see a noticeable improvement in officiating, but the final determination won't be made until the games start to mean something. Playoffs.
To answer my own question, all Tim Donaghy has really done is provide me more confidence than ever that something will change. I'll be paying more attention to officials during this first week when they like to make a statement (remember all the early Techs on complaining ... where did that go?), take a few months off, and then return to form by April.
Do you have confidence NBA officiating will be improved?
