Tim Lincecum won the 2008 NL Cy Young award today, receiving 23 out of 32 possible 1st place votes. Linceum also received 7 second place votes and 1 third place vote. One voter left him of their ballot altogether, which is an atrocity. Lincecum finished the season 18-5 for the San Francisco Giants, who were only 72-90 on the season. His 2.62 ERA trailed only Johan Santana in the NL, and his 265 strikeouts led the league by 59 over Santana, who had the 2nd most.
The most surprising thing to me is that Cole Hamels didn't receive a single vote. Hamels' 14-10 record probably hurt his chances, but he still was very effective, with a 3.09 ERA, 196 K's, and a league leading 1.08 WHIP. He wasn't better than Lincecum, but It's a bit surprising that he didn't get a single vote.
