Recently, Tim Tebow's true abilities have come under question. A lot of people have stated that he has no NFL future and others have pointed out that he wasn't a worthy Heisman contender. Of course, the Gator and Tebow fans have come to his defense and think he'll be a great pro player (in some form) and that he should have won the Heisman. Until recently, no one had really known how Tebow felt about this. Thanks to a recent College Football Talk report, we now know. ESPN's Joe Schad recently talked to the Tebow himself, and apparently Tebow is angry that people don't think he is going to be a great NFL quarterback and also angry that he didn't win the Heisman. In some sort of retaliation, Tebow might leave Florida a year early to try to prove his doubters wrong.
The fact that Tebow is so angry about this is really quite laughable. Tebow's NFL prospects could be described at best as being grim. He has a slow release, throws rainbow passes, and really isn't that accurate. Guys like that get eaten up by NFL defenses. Throw a rainbow pass against an NFL defense and a safety will pick it off just about every time. He can get away with it in the college because there are only about 128 NFL safeties and there are many far less talented safeties in college football. As for the Heisman, while Tebow did have himself a nice season, it was a bit of a joke that he even got invited to the ceremony. There were five guys (Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Graham Harrell, Michael Crabtree, and Shonn Greene) this year in college football who stood out from the rest and none of them were named Tebow. What this has proven, is that even a guy like Tebow has a huge ego.
Now, this wasn't written to rip on Tebow. Everyone who is good in sports has an ego and it isn't a bad thing. Truth is, in order to make it to a high level in sports you must think and believe that you are indeed that good. We often like to believe that only guys who annoy us, like Allen Iverson or Plaxico Burress, are ego driven, but in reality all these star athletes are. Even Tebow, who is constantly shoved down our throats as what is everything that is good in sports (and he really does represent the good in sports.)
So the next time some moron tries to say that some guy with a huge ego is what is wrong with sports today, just remember that all guys in sports have egos. Even Tim Tebow, the guy who spent his spring break in the Philippines helping with circumcisions. Without those egos, none of those guys would be playing at the high level they achieve and our sports world wouldn't be nearly as interesting as it currently is.
