Particularly, Lions fans booed Patriots coach Bill Belichick when he let Ryan Mallett finish out the game instead of giving Tebow some reps.

Is this a sign that Tebow will be cut before the Patriots get their roster down to 53?

It could be. Last year, the Patriots only played two quarterbacks in their 3rd preseason game, and they only carried two QBs on their roster.

If this year is anything like last year, Tebow will be left out in the cold.

The best reason the Patriots could justify keeping him is if they are able to find another spot for him on their roster. If he can spend a little time at another offensive position, as well as being the 3rd QB, he could actually be valuable enough to warrant keeping.

Whether it was through Tebow's prodding or simply by design, he hasn't taken a whole lot of snaps at any other positions. He caught passes with the wide receivers at least once in training camp, but spent most of his time practicing as a QB.

It's clear to anyone with an operational set of eyeballs that Tebow isn't the answer at QB, even in a backup role. But if he can supplement his value by playing other positions, maybe there's a chance that he makes the Patriots' final roster.
