To say the Tennessee Titans had a bad draft would be putting it kindly. Their first round pick of ECU's Chris Johnson made little sense considering they drafted Chris Henry last year. They also desperately need a wide receiver to help Vince Young out, and instead of grabbing someone early, they waited until the 4th round to get their first receiver - Levelle Hawkins. Even worse, or more hilarious, was that they drafted a defensive end from Winston Salem State who didn't even appear in the NFL Draft guide BEFORE they drafted their first receiver.I mean, seriously, what the hell was going on in the Tennessee war room?
Naturally, the fans are pleased beyond belief. Here's a cleaned up comment that was left on Fanhouse after the Titans selected Johnson in the first round. And by cleaned up, I mean this thing originally appeared in the comments section swears and all.
**** YOU TITANS!!!! IM A DIE HARD FAN AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS MAD AT MY TEAM BEFORE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY ZERO SENSE IN THIS PICK. WE DONT EVEN NEED A ****ING RUNNINGBACK AND THERE WAS LIMAS SWEED (VINCE'S FORMER ****ING TEAMMATE!!!!) AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!! WATTTTT THEEEEEEE ****KKKKKKKKK ARE YOU DUMB ****SS THINKING IN TENNESSEE. SO NEXT YEAR WHEN VINCE ONLY THROWS FOR 9 INTS AGAIN [I believe he means TDs], DONT BLAME HIM. YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A ****ING RECIEVER. NOT ANOTHER ****ING RUNNINGBACK FOR THE THIRD ****ING YEAR IN A ROWNow while I understand the fan, he isn't exactly a genius himself. There was no way on earth Limas Sweed should have been drafted in the first round. But the real question is, why didn't Tennessee maybe trade down for more second round picks and pull a Redskins? The second round was when a whole slew of receivers were picked, and had Tennessee been smart, they could have probably picked up two of them.
Also somewhat ironic is that Limas Sweed was actually taken by the Steelers, who were one spot ahead of the Titans in the second round. It almost seems like the Titans were set on who they wanted to draft in the first and second rounds, but then those players were picked one or two spots ahead of them and they had no clue what to do. And then it just got worse and worse in the following rounds.
Anyway, maybe Tennessee knew what they were doing, but I doubt it. This team seemed to be starting to be on the verge of challenging the Colts and Jags in the incredibly stacked AFC South, but now, not so much.
