Remember this weekend when that story came out that Tom Brady had bought Audi Q7 SUVs for his offensive linemen? Yeah it was great. Everyone was ready to proclaim Brady the new Oprah, especially the Boston Herald which reported on it.But guess what. The same Boston Herald that managed to totally botch Spygate also managed to botch this story up as well.
The Herald article just says Brady gave his linemen the cars at Brady's announcement that he'll do charity work with Audi. That more or less gives the impression that Brady might have gotten the cars discounted and that the cars would be for keeps. Only problem is Brady didn't actually buy the cars for his linemen nor do the linemen get to keep the car, as the AP actually found out. Because, you know, the AP actually does real reporting rather than slobbering over hometown athletes.
As part of Brady's deal to serve three years as the honorary chairman and celebrity ambassador of the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port, a bike ride to raise money for people with intellectual disabilities, his O-linemen get to ride around in the cars for one year, and one year only.
So all Brady has to do is show up at an event once a year for three years, he never drops a dime, nor has to deal with any taxes, and his O-linemen get to ride the cars for a year. Not for as long as they please.
It's a more than decent move on Brady's part, but for everyone who suddenly thought he was the second coming of Oprah, he's not.
