Tom Crean Leaving Marquette to Become Indiana Basketball Head Coach
Ironically, I was just getting started on a post questioning the direction of the Hoosiers basketball program.

Looks like they figured it out.

Andy Katz of ESPN just reported that Tom Crean, former Marquette Golden Eagles head coach, will be named the next head man at Indiana. Judging from the Indiana Rivals.com site message board headlines, the fan base is rather pleased.

Crean spent a good portion of his assistant coach training in the Big Ten under Tom Izzo at Michigan State, so his transition to IU should be seamless. His top player at Marquette over the last three years, Dominic James, was recruited from right under the Hoosiers watch (Richmond, IN).

One thing you can be certain of with Tom Crean, he won't be breaking any rules and embarrassing the program. He'll still have to demonstrate he can recruit elite players, but nicely done, for a change.

I hadn't hear that name for the job until right now. Great hire for the Hoosiers. Does that mean the two who got thrown off the team today be invited right back tomorrow?

Nice work for Indiana.  Crean does a great job of recruiting Chicago as well.  While the level of play isn't that great right now, the coaches in the Big 10 are ridiculous.

I wonder who Marquette will go after.  They have a pretty appealing job right now with James, McNeal, and Matthews all coming back.  Scott Sutton? Anthony Grant?

Scott Sutton would be perfect for this job. Anthony Grant would too, but if I'm him I hold out for the next big SEC job. That guys knows that territory.

I'm rather surprised at Crean's decision to leave Marquette, a program he has established.  It would be "safe" to stay at Marquette, while coaching Indiana has it's challenges this season.  I do, however, feel that Indiana has made a great choice and I hope it works out for both parties.

i had sports on the TV yesterday and they said " Indiana Hoosiers have found a coach that many Spartan fans will be familiar with" so i figured it was Scott Skiles. But it turned out to be Crean. It caught me off guard because of his success at Marquette. Nice job by Indiana picking up a coach like him
