Tom Foolery Of The NCAA And Others

Has anyone noticed lately the tomfoolery of our sports???
Maybe it's just me, but the recent allegations of OJ Mayo receiving money before and during his "stay" at USC and the ensuing reaction really got my goat. This whole "one and done" deal the NBA and NCAA have is a mockery of the student-athlete system. Not that the NCAA is not a professional league (they are, but not in name), but shouldn't it bother us more that OJ Mayo and many others take money from whoever, while many Joe real students are struggling to make ends meet and actually give a damn about the education they are receiving. Sure, the NCAA gets their superstar athletes, albeit for one season, and then they move on. Why don't we just get rid of the charade and let the basketball players go straight from high school to the pros? Baseball players do it all the time (Ken Griffey, A-Rod for example) and no one complains. Maybe if the NBA had a true professional minor league system, then maybe the real students can play basketball again. Scholarship money gets thrown around to these guys and they leave for the riches of the NBA anyway. Shouldn't the money be better spent for those who really care about finishing their degree? I believe Tim Duncan, for example, did this and we have far more respect for him than many others.
I have a bone to pick with Roger Goodell and this whole Spygate thing. The Patriots were caught cheating. They did it many times for many years. Punish them some more. I think it's high and time someone makes an example here.
Charles Barkley...I love you, but $400,000 in gambling debts??? Barkley owes Las Vegas casino the Wynn $400,000 and they are threatening to press charges. Did anyone ever tell you that when you go the Wynn, you lose??
It's probably never going to go away, but this weekend reminds me how much I hate inter- league play in major league baseball. I'm all for the Chicago, New York and Cali stuff, but the rest of it is pointless. Okay, every league does it. But baseball is special. Unique. Tradtional. Probably too old fashioned.
I saw on Awful Announcing that Tony Kornheiser said (on a radio show with Dan Le Betard or Le Ba Turd) the the newspaper medium is dead. Hear for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EP7cADt-Zk
I personally don't hope this happens, but Tony, you made your name in newspapers. Sure, not as many people read newspapers, but not as many read as they should. I read at least two newspapers every day.
Thanks to http://www.faniq.com/ for this nugget, concerning an NBC report that Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden must go.: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/24600535/
Sure, I think it might be time for them to ride off in the sunset. But the tomfoolery in this is that they aren't videotaping their opponents (that we know of) and they aren't paying their players.
Rich Rodriguez...Oh Nellie! Peer pressured into signing an extension when he was at WVU??? My god, you are a jackass!! Mothers, don't let your babies grow up to be Rich Rodriguez....
And lastly, don't tell us the penny is a meaningless coin. Just ask Ken Griffey, who paid off a $1,500 debt to teammate Josh Fogg.....in pennies! One can only imagine....
