Blogging the bases from Sunday's MLB Action ...
Reds 9, Marlins 3 Tom Shearn, who actually turns 30 on Tuesday, spent 11 years in the minor leagues. At that age, you'd better really love the game of baseball, if you haven't moved on to other endeavors. For Shearn it was all worth it, getting the call Sunday. This is the kind of story that'd make Tim Kurkjian get all giggidy. Shearn pitched 7 innings, allowing just 3 runs on 4 hits.
Red Sox 46, White Sox 7 That was the combined score of the 4 game series in Chicago. Beat.Down.
Giants 5, Brewers 4 Milwaukee was once 14 games above .500. Now the Emergency Crew is needed after a 3 game sweep to the NL West 's worst. Brewers sit at 65-65 and head to Chicago for a 3-game series that will decide how much they'd like to stick around for September.
Tigers 5, Yankees 4 Detroit's been too unpredictable, but hey, at least they're fun.
