I only just heard about this and I found it very pleasing. This proves to me that things are not all bad in NASCAR. Now I know that a lot of people would point out that DEI and Chip Ganassi have had to merge, and Petty is in trouble amongst other teams but the fact that a new team can be formed from nothing (unlike Stewart-Haas where he has just taken over from the CNC side) is very encouraging.
Now I am a massive Formula 1 fan and in my opinion some of the best and most competitive racing was when a lot of private teams such as Prost, Jordan and Minardi were in business. The fact that one team can form in "Tommy Baldwin Racing" tells us that more could follow. Given that if you have the right contacts and some money, (well quite a lot really) with the lack of overheads when you operate a one car team many teams could follow hopefully and following F1`s lead I think in the long run it could bring back the one car team and keep the interest in NASCAR .
Now there hasn`t been a driver/crew chief announcement yet but the team will run full time in 2009 and will run Toyota engines and presumably will operate out of North Carolina. The introduction of a new team does also offer many drivers who thought they were out of a job going into 09. Granted it is extremely short notice to prepare for Daytona but drivers such as Bobby Labonte, Elliott Sadler, Joe Nemechek or Dave Blaney may have a chance to impress again if they land the job, and if an experienced driver is selected it would probably speed the whole development process up.
Good luck to Tommy Baldwin racing and lets hope that more new entries follow so we can get up to the magic 43 cars throughout the 36 races
