The Arkansas Razorbacks have found their coach, now it's just a matter of working out the financials to secure Tommy Bowden reports the Northwest Arkansas Morning News.Update: Bowden will stay at Clemson. Just kidding.
If I'm Tommy Bowden I'm leaving Clemson the second a decent job is offered. They've been rumoring to fire him for what seems like his entire tenure and while Arkansas is hardly a secure job, it's more comfortable than his current post.
Other thoughts on current job openings:
Michigan Rarely will I come to the defense of the Wolverines or the WWL, but I think people have gone way overboard in regard to the Les Miles fiasco. First off, comments about Kirk Herbstreit intentionally saying Miles to Michigan to sabotage his rival is absurd. There's a certain co-worker of Herbie's that is on the search committee for the Wolverine post. You think, just maybe, Desmond Howard played a role in Kirk having some inside sources? Here's what I think happened -- Michigan intended to offer and hire Les Miles as soon as possible after the SEC Championship and Miles was on board. Then LSU decided that wasn't going to happened, offered him a much bigger contract and forced him to play his hand before the game on Saturday. Great hardball move by LSU.
Secondly, this isn't an embarrassment for Michigan. Not yet. So their number one choice decided to stay where he is and play for a national championship. That's not too big a deal. What would be embarrassing is if a couple more top level coaches turned down the job and that won't happen. I suspect assistant coaches Mike DeBord and Ron English are still the favorites. Greg Schiano of Rutgers has started to pop up around message boards, but that may be more wishful thinking on the fans end than anything else. He's waiting for JoePa to retire.
UCLA Please, please, please hire Mike Leach. The Bruins need a character for a coach in a town full of them. Don't you want to see what the pirate could do with his offense with the attractiveness of Westwood to recruit the nation's best. He'd be a success in the Pac-10 and a perfect rival for Pete Carroll. Boise State's Chris Peterson and BYU's Bronco Mendenhall would also succeed, but here's one vote for Leach.
Any other thoughts and predictions on your end? Who would Clemson look towards if Bowden leaves?
