As most of you know I'm not much of a NASCAR fan. I'm definitely not against it, I enjoy the pageantry of Daytona and watch a half dozen other races a year, but it remains unfathomable how people can watch cars go in circles for 3-4 hours.
My biggest attraction to the sport is the marketing phenomenon behind it. Mostly, how passionate fans follow "their" driver, and accordingly how much they had the rival.
One of the personalities that gets my attention is Tony Stewart. I couldn't possibly be more dissimilar than #20, but I can understand why people love him. His interview after the Brickyard 400 is a primary example. He was fined $25,000 as a result of his "bullsh*t" remark, but I bet his sponsors would happily pay that for him. It was an endearing BS.
I have little doubt that if Stewart were a baseball player, he'd been an integral part of those Athletics team that raked in as many runs as beers they drank every night.
Exactly - after Junior said S*** in a post-race interview several years ago you would've thought the networks would have a 5-second delay to prevent such a thing from happening
