Tony Stewart Wins NASCAR Coke Zero 400 at Daytona [Coke Zero 400 Recap]
SMOKE! And Fireworks On The 4th of July
If you're going to be away for the Coke Zero 400, make sure you are home for the finish, because damn it was one helluva finish.

I was out all day, but got to see the last 10 laps and heard most of the rest of the race.  If anyone ever tells you that MRN cannot deliver true racing action, please trust me, they can give you every little bit on the action you need.

Tony Stewart started on the pole, a result of qualifying being rained out.  Tony proved he deserved to be up front, and set out to stay there.  As is typical in Daytona, however, he wouldn't be at the point for all the laps, sharing that position with Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch throughout  the first 70 laps of the race.

The earlest casualty of the race was Mark Martin, who got together with Matt Kenseth, only thirteen laps into the start of the race.  Mark's car would go to the garage on the hook, and while his crew worked feverishly to get him back out, Mark acknowledged that it his move that caused his own crash.  He spoke to the announcers, but after repairs were made to his car, managed to get back out on the track.

The next caution was bad luck charm, Casey Mears, locking horns with David Stremme.  Tony continued his run at the front, coming out first after pit stops, but again, he would swap that top position with a handful of other dominant drivers.

On lap 77 the first "Big One', predicted by yours truly , struck a number of drivers, involviing 13 driver, including Dale Earnhardt Jr, who was clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time.   A number of those involved would managed to work on their cars to the point where they could return to the race, although not in the best position, but still able to compete.

The race would continue, with the occastional caution, and Tony Stewart clearly the car to beat.

With only a handful of laps to go, the caution would fly one last time for debris on the track.  Tony would once again lead them to the green flag, but on the restart, Kyle Busch would get around Tony to take the point, leading to mass chaos in my household.  I'd walked in the door with 6 laps remaining, having heard most of the race on MRN.  The rest of my family were on their feet, screaming at the TV, yelling at Tony to "take him out"!!.

Tony, being the class act that he is, raced Kyle cleanly, and never touched him, until Kyle blocked him once, then in an attempt to block him again, cut right across his nose.

Tony would win the race he dominated all night long, and Kyle would once again refuse to talk to the media, once he was released from Infield Medical Centre.

I can only say congrats, Smoke, and we'll see you on the podium in Las Vegas.  Kyle, I get your pain. I wish every driver on the track had the obsession to win that you do.  You were gaining my respect before the guitar incident, now you are starting to gain it again.

Depending on how you feel about Kyle Busch will probably tell everyone how you feel about the incident.  I like both Busch and Stewart and I dont think it was intentional one bit.  Kudos to Smoke for the win and taking the high road after the race by not willing to celebrate at Busch's expense.  To me it looked like Busch came across the nose of Stewart and Tony had no where to go, which to me was nothing but hard racing.

Kyle Petty hit the nail on the head when he brought up the 09 & 99 at Talladega, that's exactly what happened here.  I sure hope people don't try to blame Tony Stewart for this.  If Shrub wants to blame him, he should look in the mirror tomorrow morning because he knows he would've done the exact same thing had the shoe been on the other foot.

Tony got a great win. Congrats to the 14 team. Next time Kyle may want to hold his line and see what happens.

Congrats to the 14 team right now he is hands down the best  I wish he could light a fire under the 39 team as a Newman fan its discouraging to see how bad that car has been the last 4 races I thought Newman was  a shoe in to make the chase now Im not even sure they will make the chase,One thing for sure the 39 team cant blame there woes on poor equipment Im begining to think Tony needs to give some tips to the 39 team ,for the last month they have been clueless... enough Newman venting Congrats to Tony and the whole Stewart -Haas team great win in Daytona

TONYYYYYYYYY ............... wowwwwwwwwwwww!  What an awesome way to win a race!!!
Once again, Kyle Busch proved what an ass of a driver he is - and paid the ultimate price for this action!

For everyone who calls Bush an idiot did you call Edwards one after Talladega?  It was clean driving on Stewarts part but Kyle was trying to win.  Any other driver would have done the same thing in the same situation.  Glad Hamlin had a good finish.

Funny you mention MRN.  I LOVE to watch the race on the radio. MRN does a fantastic job. I finally figured out though that I should not be driving and listening to the race at the same time.

It was an OK race.  Great win for Tony. What a mess at the end though. WOW.

Most of the time I hate to see a driver get hit as many times as shrub did.  But, hey, maybe it knocked some sense into him. But I doubt it.   I'm not saying going for the win isn't what he was supposed to be doing. That's his job. I'm just saying hopefully he grows from it.

I thought the whole race was boring, until the last lap and a half, Stewart did nothing wrong he did what he needed to do to win, Busch will have to get over it.

Like Kyle wouln't wrecked Tony....Great win Tony.....I hope everybody keeps racing Kyle hard.....The other drivers sorta back off in 2008 cause they knew Kyle would wreck 'em....Get him before he gets you

as many times that i have watched the videos of the finish i still don't see anyone trying to wreck anyone else just two racers going hard for the win....fortunatly no one was injured in a wild finish......

Did Kyle try to wreck Tony? NO. Was that racing at its finest with 2 great drivers battling it out on the last lap? YES.
My picks was Tony first and Kyle second, it almost happened, I'll take the loss on my FanIQ points anyday for a 4th of July firework finish like that.
Way to go Tony.
Kyle, you raced your ass off. You gave all NASCAR fans what they wanted, whether they like you or not.

Hey, Kyle Busch. You can dish it out, but you can't take it, you little cry baby. You're racing with the big dogs, so expect to get bit back. waaahhhh.!!!!!.......Nice win, Tony, you deserved it. (Even though I'm a J.G. fan)

Kyle B. seems to have a lot of fans, but he won't keep them long when he does dumb stuff, like refusing to talk to the media or busting up that beautiful Sam Bass guitar that any sane person would have cherished. That was too disrespectful.

Did "The Intimidator "give interviews in post race losses? No. Kyle smashing his guitar was Rock and Roll at its finest. Yeah I thought you might be a Jeff Gordon fan, just by the way you keep crying about Kyle.

I don't think Kyle tried to wreck Tony. However, this is another example of how Kyle gets too reckless sometimes. His adreneline gets going and thats when he stops racing smart and makes stupid moves like this. Yes he was going for the win but sometimes being second is more important than winning in the long run.

IMO....there was no reason or anyone to blame on the last lap....it is what it is.....and that's restrictor plate racing at it's best.  From what I saw Kyle got around Tony to lead, Tony went high, Kyle did the same to block, Tony goes low, Kyle goes low to block Tony and try to win the race but didn't know Tony was already there...Tony clipped Kyle's left rear and that's excactly what they are supposed to do.  The same thing happened at Talladega with Edwards and Keselowski.....it's a product of plate racing and it's going to happen....there is nothing NASCAR do about it.....other than stop racing there or remove the plates..but that is another story.  No one is to blame in this wreck....it's racing....and the casualty of wide-open racing.  Enuff said.
Lots of fans won't agree on this because that's what makes us fans...the ability to agree to disagree...and voice our opinions while respecting others opinions.

Those are random cases. Almost all the drivers in the top 10 give post race interviews, win or lose. I did say any *sane* person would cherish that one-of-a-kind guitar. Kyle isn't a rock star. Jimi Hendrix or Pete Townsand wouldn't even trash a guitar like that one. Oh, low blow, I'm a Jeff Gordon fan.....that hurts, ow. What are you, in kindergarden?!

In my opinion this race proves that Stewart/Haas Racing is here to stay. Tony will be the next Cup champion in 2009.

SHR is a force to be reckoned with. 7 PERFECT pit stops, and great car handling!! Exciting race weekend, chock full of surprises, and disappointments. As for Shrub..he gains a little more respect from me each race.

This was the racing that fans have been begging for, it was clean, and it was Checkers or Wreckers til the flag dropped!!

Are you serious? I understand not everyone is going to agree with me. Is that a reason to attack my character? Did I say "Stupid, ignorant, redneck boy. Should've stayed in school, with all that bad grammar and misspelled words." I guess that's just obvious.

I like Kyle because of the way he races and tries to win.  Most drivers play it safe and are too boring.

Unfortunately he'll never win the championship with the "if I can't win I'd rather wreck or blow up" attitude.

I am one of his hugest fans, literally and figuratively, and I couldn't agree more. Sometimes second with a great Car is better than 14th with no Car. The amount of points, purse, and an excellent car for the restrictor plates lost ,was way too much to lose for one win.

1st off - WAY TO GO STEW!!!!!!, now, Edwards isnt a crybaby, he spoke to the media (and FANS) after 'Dega, he didnt run off, HIDE and POUT in his hauler, coach or where ever dips*** goes. Once a fan, not any more so call me a hater, but may "Traitor" Gibbs Racing have the worst racing luck and finishes for the rest of thier existence.
