Toronto Maple Leafs gets killer blow from Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn
Killorn landed a brutal hit on Ranger when there were 4 second remaining for the first period to end for the game at Air Canada Center. With the score standing at Tampa 3 and Leafs 2, Alex went behind the net and was crushed from behind onto the boards by Killorn. The hit proved to be too much for him to take and he did not get up from the ice.
Ranger remained on the ice unable to get up as teammates swarmed around him. Killorn proceeded to the penalty box for boarding and was continuously booed for the brutal tackle. Medical personnel with Ranger called for a stretcher to move him and the Leafs players, worried for their teammate did not leave the ice.
Ranger was then taken off the ice but in a neck brace. During all that time he had his hands tight around his stomach and it seemed the brunt of the hit had been to that area and was in pain. When moved off the ice in stretcher, he still had his hands on his stomach and chances are high that he sustained an injury there.
The first period was then called to an end by the referees and the players returned to their respective dressing rooms. The team has yet to bring an update regarding Rangers condition and how he is holding up. They will have to detail on the extent of injury as well.
Ranger has been a major asset to the team and has been a solid defence player for the Leafs. If the injury is more severe and he has to sit out a few games they will be losing an important starting player.
